From ManUtd.com Wayne Rooney has taken up cycling as he steps up his rehabilitation from the broken fourth metatarsal in his right foot. The 20-year-old forward is continuing as planned on his recovery from the injury he sustained in the 3-0 Premiership defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on 29 April. On Friday Rooney was joined by Alan Smith, who is doing well in his return from a dislocated ankle and broken leg, as the pair cycled around United's Carrington training ground. Sir Alex confirmed that Smith could be back in action by the beginning of September, while reports on Friday suggested Rooney was ahead of schedule after having the protective case taken off his foot. But there has been no official comment from the United or England camps and the club stands by its original diagnosis and estimated return date of six weeks from when the injury first occured.
