It's a pity we didn't make a serious play for Ballack. The guy is a mercenary. So you have to break your wage structure for him. So what? Look at the economics. Say he wants £7.5 mill a year. 4 years he costs you £30 mill. You sign X and he costs you, if he's any good, £20 mill. His wages for 4 years at £5 mill another £20mill . In other words it costs you £10 mill more for an untried African rather a medium term, well-proven German. Now I don't like the guy. I always thought he was a totally arrogant pig before he went from Leverkeusen. But I fancy someone like the prize prat Essien even less. Anyway, Chelski would offer him £10 mill but that's the fun of it. It would make them look as they are - Money can't buy you??? Nothing .

Wouldn't worry too much about Ballack, you never know he might get completely run ragged in the Premier league, Essien did. His signing will only further unsettle all the central midfielders Chelsea already have, as well as cost them one hell of a lot of money, they can't run at losses forever.
