United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has understandably urged caution over the prospect of Rooney, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation at United's Carrington training ground, being rushed back prematurely.
Eriksson has included Rooney in his 23-man squad nonetheless and, despite recognising United's right to a say, the Swede claims England will make the final decision regarding the player's fitness.
"It's very important to know he is paid by Manchester United and Manchester United must look after their interests for Rooney and for the future," Eriksson told the News of the World.
"On the other hand, if he's fit, nobody can tell him not to play in the World Cup.
"He is desperate to play. Our doctors and our physios are in regular contact with the medical staff at Manchester United and it is in everyone's interest to get him fit as soon as possible.
"What if England's doctors disagree with United's doctors?
"I don't think that will happen - they have to agree.
"The two doctors and physios have very good contact. I am not worried. If Rooney is fit, he's fit."
What do you reckon? Should domestic managers have the right to stop their players from going? I remember Fergie kicked off after Heinze chose to play in the Olympics, but he couldnt do anything about that either.

NO. They should be consulted, seriously consulted, have their opinion taken into account, esp if the player is injured, I think if the utds physio's proffesional opinion is that Rooney isn't fit, they should compile a report for The England staff and if Sven decides to play Rooney inspite of our assesment and he suffers a worse injury we should be able to use that report, and get compensation from the FA!

Lol yeh, compensation from the FA. Next time one of our players breaks one of the rules, they'll be dealt with as leaniently as everyone else? That'd be nice compensation wouldnt it!
Rooney is going to go whether Fergie likes it or not. I dont think anyone could stop him. Especially when his uncle is set to win £50k! lol.

Well we don't get treated fair anyways, lets be honest, we've seen that with Rio's ban and with the lack of penaltys we've had for few years now! So sod the Fa, imagine if our physio's are against Rooney going, Rooney doesn't want to play unless he's fully fit, the england staff give him the all clear, and he injures himself for say the length Solskjear has!

I think the man who has the last word should always be Sir Alex. If Rooney is not 100% fit and goes to the World Cup, picks up an injury, touch wood he doesn't, but if he does, it could rule him out for most of next season. And there will be us, with a £30m striker sitting at home crocked because England were desperate.

I have to agree with that, at the end of the day he's United's best player and risking him in the English team is madness!..you're asking for trouble if he's not fully fit.

There's no doubt that England are going to have a harder time without Rooney if he ends up not playing, but it's not just about one world cup competition it's about his responsibility to club as well. If he's fully fit then play him, but if there's the slightest doubt then don't play him!

The united players should revolt and strike against playing for England. The way the FA has treated us for years is nothing short of digusting with several examples to prove it. When Rio got his ban and the united players led by Neville almost did strike - they should have!
'We all agree united are better than england' - And FAR more important too!
The FA treat us unfairly yet wew continue to provide England with 3 or more of its first 11 year in year out. - its a feckin joke!!
