I think United fans will be the first to admit that the League Cup is our last priority. We've had a lot of stick from our rivals, reminding us of what we used to say about this cup a good 5-10 years ago.
5-10 years ago, "Worthless Cup" seemed a pretty apt name. No, of course winning it was better than not winning it, so it wasnt totally worthless, lol, but it was usually just something for average teams to compete it.
The FA Cup is probably the best domestic cup going in the world, and in a heart beat I'd swap our League Cup for Liverpool's FA Cup (but I wouldnt swap our overall season with theirs). But the League Cup isnt what it used to be.
Past Winners: 03-04 - Boro (11th in the league) 02- 03 - Liverpool (5th in the league) 01-02 - Blackburn (10th in the league) 00-01 - Liverpool (3rd in the league...beat non Prem side Birmingham on pens) 99-00 - Leicester (8th in the league...beat non Prem side Tranmere) 98-99 - Spurs (11th in the league) 97-98 - Chelsea (4th in the league...beat non Prem side Boro aet) 96-97 - Leicester (9th in the league)
Compared to recent winners: 04-05 - Chelsea (1st in the league) 05-06 - United (2nd in the league)

I think the games it's produced in the last few years have made it a much more exciting competition, that's for sure!

The season objective (every season): win some silverware.
We've done it this season, and have cut the 20-point gap between us and Chelsea to 8-points. That's a massive improvement on the 2004-05 season.
OK, the Carling Cup isn't top of the wanted list. When Chelsea, won it the media were excited and proclaimed, 'the start of domination'. When United win it though it's a different story?, I think that's unfair. United have some great youngsters and the Carling Cup success was a taster to them which will give them a good winning experience and the hunger to win the 'bigger' trophies.
The top 3 English clubs have won one piece of silverware this season and Arsenal could make it top 4 if they win the Champions League, I so hope they don't. I don't want to make any excuses but our team is relatively young and thin on the ground, especially in the midfield area. A midfield including Fletcher, Richardson and Sheasy vs. the likes of Lampard, Makelele, Essien and Gerrard, Alonso and Sissoko. Is it an embarrasment winning the Carling Cup and finishing 2nd?...I think NOT!

I do agree with what's been said about the League Cup being our last priority, but let's look at it this way-it's one more piece of sliverware than we actually won last year, so at least we've managed to get a domestic pot this season!

I don't care about liverpools season..We have improved this season ,mosting in the latter half of the seasosn...THe first half was patchy and our CL performences were absolutely woeful...We lost keano and scholes yet improved after we lost both those players....Our central midfield at the moment is make shift and it all depends who we buy for this area....Plus a striker of top quality..

A quick question guys, do Wigan get into europe by getting beaten by us in the league cupfinal given as how we don't need the UEFA cup spot as we're in the Champions league?

I don't think Wigan get the European spot mate. As for the Worthless Cup Id say that the win in Cardiff gave our players an added belief in themselves and that accounted for the great unbeaten run we went on after it so Id say the win was a great success on our transitional season. Also Rooneys first honours with United Always a pleasure Wayne
