'Under Fergie', obviously means you can't select the likes of Law, Best and Charlton. (just to clear that up) My XI and Subs bench: Schmeichel
G.Neville - Bruce - Pallister - Irwin
Beckham - Scholes - Keane - Giggs
Van Nistelrooy - Cantona Subs bench: Van Der Sar Ferdinand Robson Solskjaer Cole Solskjaer pipped Rooney to the subs bench, because of Ole's antics in the Nou Camp at about 21.45 (GMT), on the 26th May 1999. ;D he will be in the starting line-up in less than 5 years though.!

I like Hughes better than Ruud. So then, if we're talking about a hypothetical game, if I had the choice, I'd rather bring on Ole or Rooney to change a game, no Ruud, at his peak or not.

Journo's taking the tactical route then. All of the strikers mentioned are Manchester United legends in their own rights, I selected Ruud because of his phenomenal scoring record.

Ha ha less of the journo My decission to leave him out has nothing to do with whats going on now. He's been a fantastic player for us, I just liked the ones I picked better, and reckon all of them, at their peak, could do a better job than Ruud at his.

I'm not going to try and change anyones opinion but I think Ruud has been our best striker since Denis Law. I know thats a strong statement, but that's what I think. Sparky is a Legend, as are the likes of Cole, Sheringham, etc.

Schmeichel (well duh!)
G.Neville Brucey Pally Irwin (The best right footed left back ever, but Heinze will take this position eventually)
Giggs (Every time, every time) Robson Keane Beckham (Considered Kanchelskis but Beckham wins, Ronaldo has a long road)
Cantona (King Eric) Toughest decision in the team for second striker: Rooney Solskjaer Hughes Van Nistelrooy Cole
Hmmmm Cole but it's really really close
Subs: Van Der Saar Heinze Scholes Hughes Van Nistelrooy
Rooney will soon take the place in the team from Cole but I decided to go for Andy cos he was a big player for the club but was unsung and overshadowed by the collossus that was King Eric.

Can't argue with most of the teams. One interesting point though. No-one selects Rooney but apparently today - not next year or soon - he is utterly indispensable to England. Doesn't say much for English football does it.

Doesn't say much for English football does it. You have a point but I'd have to disagree. Waz is THE best thing to come out of England, footballing wise so it's no surprise he is indispensable to England. These teams selected are based on what the players have done for United, what they have achieved for United and for that reason I don't think Rooney should be in these sides...yet! If they were selected based on the person to have the most talent out of everyone that has pulled on the red for United then Rio would be in there ahead of Brucey and Pallister, Heinze above Irwin, Rooney before Van the Man and Cole...I hope that's clear cos I have waffled on for a bit.... ;D

i get what ur saying yeah but i think your being slightly unfair on denis irwin, i firmly beleive that as a full back there was only roberto carlos and paolo maldini that could compare to him, and i actually think he was a better footballer than heinze is, but gabi is like a south american stuart pearce and we love him for it. at the end of the day each player would bring their own qualities to the team, the fact is the player that is most like rooney is eric and eric is probably the most influential player weve ever had in terms of impact he made and rooney will never ever compare in that way. i gotta say though that it speaks volumes about the last 20 years under fergie that bryan robson and paul ince probably the best english midfielders of their generation cant get in our teams.
