i find this article quite painful...
This is quite depressing..even spurs are more attractive than us(snigger)...
Dimitar Berbatov has revealed Manchester United made an "unconvincing" bid to sign him before he sealed his £10.9million move to Tottenham.
The Bulgarian striker, who will join Spurs on July 1 assuming he receives a work permit, was the second-top goalscorer in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen this season and looks set to replace Egyptian frontman Mido at White Hart Lane.
But the 25-year-old has claimed he had the chance to move to Old Trafford, although Spurs' lengthy pursuit of him convinced him to link up with Martin Jol's men.
Berbatov said: "I had a meeting with a representative of Manchester United and he told me that they have been following me for a while.
"But Tottenham showed me clearly how much they want me there and United wasn't really convincing."
Berbatov was effusive in his praise of not only Jol but the whole Spurs set-up.
He said: "I'm happy that I will play in a club with high ambitions. There were people from Tottenham watching me playing for a while but I was watching them too and I really like the way they play.
"The team tries to play beautiful football, which I like very much, and the manager is exceptional. The players have great respect for Mr Jol and all he wants is for his team to play beautiful football."
Berbatov has no fears about his ability to settle in England either, saying: "I think I'll adapt fast because I know the language well."

‘’ I think I will adapt fast, as I know the language well ‘’ yeah, because that’s how it works (rolls eyes)
First Ballack turns us down (but who cares) then Berbatov, who next? It’s a shame to see such talent wasted at Spurs; I wouldn’t have minded seeing him at OT.

I think its a fashion now that every player that sign for some other club come out & say how he rejected United to join them #furious# I can't understand why anyone worried abt it...he's not world class or the player we need anyways. If it's true that he turned down Man Utd for spuds (altough I just can't see it) this guy need a mental operation straight away #furious# Ballack come out & said the same, but we all know that fergie said abt 6 months ago that he's tought abt ballack but not too keen on him as rooney & scholes play in the same position for united. Now Ballack trying to paint the picture as he turned Man Utd down altough it's the case of Man Utd not too intrested on him. I rather have fletcher playing for us with his heart & soul then these money grabbers

I agree with you TheFutureIsRed about Berbatov. Every player comes out with the formulaic 'i rejected united' mention, i'm sure it does wonders to Spurs' self-esteem. Not a player of united quality though so who cares.

He is a good player but not good enough for United...he's just chatting shit so he gets a few fans before he's started!

If fergie really wants someone, he gets them. The only one's i've seen him really want and fail with are Ronaldinho and Shearer, if he genuinly wanted Berbatov he would be here. ;D

"Tottenham wanted me more" In other words, he cant be arsed to compete with Rooney, Saha, RVN and Smith

He was the cheaper option to Mido? With less of a temperament.. i'd have signed Mido, more suited to the premiership.
