From the official site:
'Reserves captain Markus Neumayr is among seven United players to be granted a free transfer as of June 30, 2006.
The German winger led Rene Meulensteen's side to an exceptional Treble season, but will be allowed to leave after three years as a professional at Old Trafford.
News of Quinton Fortune's impending exit was broken by Sir Alex Ferguson back in March, leaving Neumayr as the most surprising departure.
Meanwhile, injury-plagued defender Mark Howard leaves along with Mads Timm, Eddie Johnson, Phil Picken and Tommy Lee.
Third-year scholar Kyle Moran will also leave as he will not be offered professional terms this summer.'
Thoughts on these players? Would any of them have had any future should they have stayed?

That went totally over my head. I don’t keep up to date with the reserves, only the big boys and obviously the likes of Rossi. Although I doubt they’d of been released had they stood a chance of having bright futures in the first eleven. Talk about losing a pound and finding a penny.

Quite surprised at Neumayr leaving but not so the others! Heard he was doing really well in the reserves! We need to produce the next Becks,Giggsy,Neville,Scholes and Butty!..

Just a little suprised by Neuymar, he was starting to get into the first team and getting a few chances such as carling cup matches etc. Maybe this is also part of the Glazers cost cutting... Can't help but wonder if they would still be here should the Glazers not be here.

I'm not surprised at Neumayr's departure, he was one of the oldest players in the reserve side excluding the likes of Heinzé and Ole of course, and it was quite clear he wouldn't be able to cut it in the first team especially with the signings of C.Ronaldo and Sparky II

If he's not going to make it he's not going to make no even if the pope was in charge, I'm not heavily keen on the glaziers but I hate how everything at old trafford is their fault, my chair doesn't work it's the glaziers fault, wayne rooney hurt his metatarcel, it's the glaziers fault, united in an unprecidented move don't offer youth teamers contracts, this is a new move in football it must be the glaziers, those evil devils. The decision was made that he was surplus to requirements so he was shown the door simple as that. I am persoanlly operating a 'wait and see' on the glaziers, so I'm not pro-glazier but I'm also not gonna blame them for every single one of the clubs ills either.

In can't be down to the Glazers, every single year at this time a group of players will be released on free transfers to pave way for a new batch of youngsters threw into the reserves, it has happened for as long as I can remember and will continue to do so.

As much as I would have liked to see Neumayr have been given a decent shot at first team football and not just minor matches, his and his team mates release will benefit the players probably more than United as they will be more likely to get first team football with a different side. You never now, the next group of reserves might be superstars in the making.

Yep i thought Neumayr may have had a chance, but perhaps there's someone in the under 19's who's rated higher than him and they want to give a run in the reserves? edit: or perhaps he just reminds Fergie too much of Beckham?
