From ManUtd.com
Cristiano Ronaldo wants to take the World Cup by storm and help Portugal win the tournament in Germany. Ronaldo played a key role in Portugal's run to the final of the European Championships in his home country two years ago.
Now the United winger, who has ambitions to be considered among the best players in the tournament, wants to inspire his country to go one better.
"I'm trying to give my very best in every training session in order to be at my best level in the World Cup," he said.
"I'm still not 100% but I will get there in time to help my team achieve its aims. My dream is to be one of the best players in the world.
"There are many players who can hope to be the best player in the tournament and I just hope to be among that group."
Ronaldo is already seen as one of Portugal's leading lights, much like his United team-mate Wayne Rooney is for England. The 21-year-old former Sporting Lisbon winger knows he must deliver.
"I want to prove my value," he said. "But I don't think the pressure will affect me. I know that there is great expectation and that really gives me motivation to improve."
I really want Ronaldo to shine in the World Cup. Just to show everyone else what a good fucking player he is. If he can pull off his tricks on the biggest stage ever, then that will say great things about him...... but will also get the likes of Real sniffing.

Good on the lad, he has the ability to go further, so why not go all out on the biggest stage in football. The only problem I have with it and Scott mentioned it, is having the likes of real snapping to try and get his signature on a contract.

Ronaldo is class... no doubt about it... and he's had a lot on his plate too.
83 points is a good total for a team that WE all know isn't quite firing on all cylinders... I personally think it never will until we ditch RVN, a great servant he has been, but I find United to be at their best when not reliant on a single goal scoring machine.
I think Ronaldo may hope this will happen too lol... if half of what I've read about the 'dispute' between Ruud and Ronaldo is true I'd get rid of the dutchman in a second.
Anyway, this isn't a Ruud bashing post... more an appreciation of a very, very talented player... Ronaldo rocks!

I'm far from conviced Ronaldo is good enough for United let alone, world class. I am as certain as I can be he will never be the best player in the world, and that's because I don't see that much improvement in three seasons and nor do I see a footballer with a football brain.
He has fantastic abilities but he foesn't really benefit the team, Becks didn't have the pace or skill or arial ability of Ronaldo but he worked very hard for the team and he had an excellent end product.
People say he is only 21 but so what does that stop the Fletcher critics??
May be he is better suited to european football where the game is played at less pace and players are given space. The thread says producing on the world stage will demonstrate how good he really is, I am not convinced by that Veron was brilliant for Argentina Poborsky the same for the Czechs. a certain goalscorer at Liverpool took the plaudits but failed to set the Kop alight.
My own view is Ronaldo will only turn out a great player if he can adapt to a more central role, I cannot ever see him becoming a great winger.

I sometimes think that Ronaldo takes one touch too many. There have been several instances that I've seen a defender step in and take the ball away while he was executing some trickery. Then again, I've seen him blow right past defenders (with style) on his way towards the goal. I think he could become an even bigger asset if he were to tone down the flavor a bit. We all know he has the talent, but he has become very predictable. The whole step over routine can only be done so many times before the opponent figures it out.
But then again, with all that said, Damn I love to watch him play... I'm sure the quandry is obvious ;-)

He will be one of the best players in the World providing he stays under Fergie's guidance.

i love ronaldo and think he will be one of the greatest players ever BUT if he's playing on the wing he wont be, i think a forward role would suit him more

I love watching him play, all he needs to do is learn to tone it down a bit, if we could bring Kerlon those two would set each other alight, teach eachother new things etc, i for one love seeing Ronaldo rip past the defence, though like i said if he an learn to control when and when not to and perhaps play a more central role the kid will be a wonder, bear i mind he had a shit year so it was a bit hard for him to show major improvment such as Rooney etc, no one else on the team had rape allegations and a father die in one season!
Give him a chance, i would rather see him in front of our defence than terrorising it for Barca!

Ronaldo is actually my favourite united player, and I think he has a good shot at being one of the worlds best players, if not the best. Offcourse he has a lot of improving to do, and I think he will make it. He has a lot of potential and considering his young age the feature looks bright for him. Got to agree he probably would do better in the role he plays for Portugal though...

Although as a footballer he irritates me, he certainly makes games very interesting to watch. Critics call him an old fashioned winger, but i don't see anything old fashioned in his style.
Moreover, I do not feel playing him more central would work, he doesn't quite have the passing play, and the 'playmaker' skills i general required, he's best at taking on players, and hte best place to do wthat is on the wing. His crossing has very much imroved, he does cross quite freqently, and does have end product - but i wish he'd show a little bit more awareness.

His desire to be the best is to be admired it still astonishes me to see MANCHESTER UNITED 'FANS' call for his departure

I think he already is one of the most feared players...in 2 seasons time he will be better than Ronaldihno, I mean, how many people had head on Ronaldhino when he was 18??
Not too many of us...
Youve gotta love Ronnie, he just loves playing beautiful football

i think we don't have to worry about him leaving but if he does leave for real then we know it will be one hell of a transfer fee
