Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster has been called up as stand-by for England's World Cup squad.
The 23-year-old is being rushed back from an end of season holiday to join up with Sven Goran Eriksson's squad.
Foster has been called upon after Robert Green's injury on Thursday evening against Belarus.
The Norwich man damaged his groin and that now means Scott Carson has stepped into his shoes as number three.
Now Foster has been drafted in as cover for Carson, along with David James and Paul Robinson.
The call-up ends a wonderful season for Foster - who has just helped Watford claim a place in The Premiership through the play-offs.
Foster joined Watford on loan from Manchester United, who only signed him from Stoke last summer, and he played a major role in The Hornets' promotion.

If he stays on loan at Watford could edge out James as No.2 next season Good for him.

Is this a sign that Fergie can pick potentially great keepers again? Or are England just really fucked for goalies? He does look good anytime I've seen him. Miles better than Carson anyway.

Good stuff, he’s a good keeper, although he should be the 3rd keeper, way ahead of Scott Carson.

He should of been on the standy-by list from the get-go he has had more football and impressed more the Robert Green and Scott Carson IMO...but, Well Done mate and I believe he will be England's number 1 in no time soon....!

I haven't seen too much of him this season but from what I've heard Watford probably wouldn't be where they are now without him, not just for his defensive responsibilities but his distribution is apparently fantastic.. assisting plenty of goals from long balls on breaks etc.

Brilliant news for him. He's really going through a great patch in his career. 23 is very young for a keeper, and there are very few exceptions of players who have made it at that age. So good on him. If Sven's squad selection meant anything, I'd probably be even more impressed lol.

He's onlyon standby so one more keeper needs to get injured before he can get on the plane. However just to be in contention is a great achievement. Fair play to him he deserves it as it is his hard work that has got him there.

What a year he has had, if a fortune teller had said a year ago while unable to get in the Stoke squad he would be transferred to United win promotion to the p[rem with Watford and be on the verge of a World Cup spot what do you suppose he would have thought.
