From Sky Sports:
Wayne Rooney has joined up with the rest of the England World Cup squad at the Lowry Hotel in Manchester.
Sven Goran Eriksson's players are based at the hotel in readiness for Tuesday's World Cup warm-up match against Hungary at Old Trafford.
Rooney will watch from the stands as England's players continue their preparations for the tournament opener against Paraguay on June 10.
Rooney underwent a scan on Thursday which confirmed the striker's recovery was on course but he is still unlikely to be involved in the World Cup group stages.
Any decision on when Rooney will return to training, though, depends on the results of another scan on June 14 - the day before England face Trinidad & Tobago in The Three Lions' second group game.
Eriksson has already confirmed that the Manchester United striker will be included in his squad and Rooney's presence in Germany will be a major fillip to his team-mates.

Rooney's decisive scan has been brought forward to 7th June. This has been done so if there's no way he can play, he can still be replaced in the squad by Johnson or Defoe. I think this is good news as a Manchester United fan because it means he won't be risked unless he will be 100% fit. And, it may also be a sign he will be fit earlier than expected because Sven asked for it to be brought forward, do you think he's willing to leave Wayne at home?

I think sven has realised its not going to be miracle and has decided to make sure just before the world cup. Of course we are all hoping, but Defoe is hardly a bad replacement to be fair.

Twenty-two men are brought, each for a specific reason. Very rarely are all of them used on the pitch. I think Rooney would be great for morale. Sven would not have to use him and risk further injury. Remember a couple of Cups back when Gazza was left home? From an outsiders standpoint, that action seemed devastating to England's morale. A similar incident happened here in the States. Our long time captain, John Harkes, was left off of the squad one month before the finals. We failed to get out of the group stage. I know the battle of club v country is a constant debate, I just think a happy compromise can be found for a player of Rooney caliber. He's got a long career ahead of him. I think it would only serve Rooney's confidence level (and in context, helping his rehab) if he were on the squad.

I’ve never once said I want him to play if he isn’t 100%, that would be unthinkable, as someone mentioned in another thread, it only takes someone who knows what they’re doing to go in hard on Rooney knowing he’s carrying an injury, taking him out of the rest of the tournament and most importantly, next season for us. But if he’s capable of playing and the scans are positive, then I’m fully behind him playing. And as it happens, he won’t make the earlier matches (which we should win without him anyway) but he can make the latter matches. So that way, everyone wins.

Looks like Sven has finally woken up, and about time. Its good news its been moved forward, for United anyway. He's less likely to have positive results from the scan as its a week earlier.. although i have a suspicion Sven would take him at this stage anyway and maybe organise another scan depending on just how well its healed at this stage.
I also believe United would either keep Rooney here and send him over when ready or send doctors with him to make sure he's ready if the scan doesn't show he can fully train, which is highly likely it won't.
