So does this board think Rooney is rushing things (See article below)? It's understandable that Rooney wants to play on the grand stage, but how does this fare for United?
-------- Wayne Rooney is so confident of playing in the World Cup that he joked with Sven Goran Eriksson that he was fit to face Jamaica at Old Trafford today.
Rooney, who kicked a ball yesterday for the first time since breaking his metatarsal at Stamford 2 Bridge on April 29, has staggered England's medical team with the speed of his recovery.
The striker spent 10 minutes running at Manchester United's Carrington training centre yesterday and showed no obvious signs of discomfort as he began kicking a ball with both feet.
Eriksson, who is without the injured Gary Neville for this afternoon's friendly, said: 'I asked Wayne when he could play and he said "Saturday". I asked "which Saturday?" and he replied "this one".' Rooney is making such progress that he may even train on Monday if he continues to improve. Rooney will fly with England to Germany on Monday before
returning to Manchester on Wednesday for the make-or-break scan. His recovery has already been given royal approval after Prince William's visit to Carrington on Wednesday, but Eriksson said: 'I don't know Prince William well, but I don't think he's a surgeon. He has a lot of qualities, but maybe not that. 'I have always been positive that Rooney will take part.' Eriksson will take Jermain Defoe to Germany as a precaution, but Rooney finished his rehabilitation with United yesterday and is now under England team doctor Leif Sward. Eriksson, who initially claimed he did not know Rooney had kicked a ball, said the striker had given the squad a huge lift, but David Beckham urged caution. The England captain believes Rooney will play in the World Cup but would never fully recover from the injury. Beckham said: 'Gary Neville and I are the same because in the cold we always feel it. You always get an ache. 'To hear that he's been kicking a ball is a big lift for the players. His recovery is better than mine, but he still has to be careful.'
