Manchester United have handed midfielder Richie Jones a new two-year contract.
The 19-year-old has impressed in the reserves and played in both the Carling Cup and FA Cup last season, going closest to opening the scoring in the disappointing goalless draw at Burton Albion.
Capped by England at Under-19 level, Jones will look to push on and make his mark in an area where Sir Alex Ferguson has had depleted resources over the past season or so.
"My new contract gives me the chance to stay at Old Trafford and work with some fantastic coaches and players," he said.
"You can't get any better than learning from Sir Alex Ferguson and the rest of the staff here.
"Hopefully, I will get a few more run-outs in the first team next season and build on things from there." ----------------------------
What do you guys make of this guy? Hopefully he’ll get more chances.

Good idea keeping him, I think he'll do well as he already has proven himself in the reserves. Bringing up talent from the youth system is a great way to remain competitive without having to spend absurd amounts of money on players who aren't proven in the United system.

Richie Jones is a good player, he's got good pace, works hard and he also makes a good leader. Although he is on his way into the first team, that's just it, he's on his way into the first team still. He's nearly twenty years old, and at the moment he's not going to be playing regularly for the first team as anything but a subsitute if that. If he doesn't manage to get into the first team more regularly within the next year or two, I'm afraid that might mean he never will, and by then he might want to put his career and first team football ahead of playing in our first eleven a few times a year.

I like this lad. All the times I've seen him play he's impressed me. Would like him to get a few more chances to impress.

Not seen much from him to suggest he won't go the way of most of our reserves to be honest.
His namesake David Jones has impressed where ever he's played- reserves player of the season and youth team captain, Preston, and lately in Holland and even he looks like not going to get a chance with the first team.

Great news. It's obvious Fergie thinks highly of him, we know about the likes of Campbell, Ebanks Blake, Rossi & Piqué. The two Jones, David & Ritchie will be a big part of United in the future.
