Despite all my bleating about lack of transfer progress, I have to say that the timing of the bid for Carrick looks a bit suspicious. 1) SAF does not want to risk Roo early in the WC 2) Sven does 3) Reputedly big blow-up and suggestions from Sven that he's in charge 4) On the eve of the 1st match, we make a bid for Carrick
Now if that isn't Fergie saying that "you think that the FA is in control - but at the end of the day the Prem pays the wages and we run the show and if I want to unsettle one of your squad......" I will be surprised.
I didn't want Roo to play at all. He is our STAR and if he gets a further injury, and there are loads of examples of players coming back from injury too soon and getting a different injury, it's our season that goes down the pan again. Remember last year when we didn't have half a squad until October. It doesn't matter long term for Sven - he's off to Madrid and he'll play Roo at EVERY opportunity he thinks he can get away with because he wants short term glory. Our future for the next 5 years is built round Roo - I just hope he'll be OK

i agree 100%. He is only pleasing the fans acting all dareing against fergie. fact is all fergie is saying he doesnt want him to play the group stages and just the knockout but sven wants to act the macho man standing up to fergie.
personnaly i think the FA have been fools for letting sven stay for this long.

Fergie isn't that petulant. And, I don't think there has been any argument between Fergie & Sven. They haven't even met each other, both were spoken to by medics and physios. The fact is Rooney is 'injury-free' and won't play a part in any early games, Fergie has obviously allowed him to go and that's that. But it's the media, papers, websites trying to force a problem between Manchester United & England and it's working. I'm both a big England fan & Manchester United fan, United first of course but my passion is as equal for both. People just love to try and make a distance between the two teams and it's upsetting the British media have a 'thing' against United. I don't want Wayne risked, Fergie doesn't and neither does England. He is fully fit and will play when ready, end of.

OK - say it's the media that is the cause of the rift or that they have "created" a rift and there isn't one. Then why on earth time the announcement of the bid for Carrick for today or yesterday. Surely, either we wanted him a month ago or we wait until after the WC. I think you are being naive if you don't think Fergie's petulant. Lots of tales refer to his "holding a grudge". And don't forget, he's not exactly English!!!!!!!!!

It's a joke to think he'd act petulantly like that. Maybe Carrick wasn't his first choice signing or maybe he waited to acquire the funds from Obi Mikel. Nobody knows what happens behind the scenes, at the negotiation table, etc. So how can we make slanderous comments that Fergie acted, it's bullshit!...and I'd expect better from Manchester United fans, never mind the English media.

Lets get a couple of things clear. Firstly, I care not a hoot what happens in Germany. I lost interest in England many years ago when the Blazers declined the services of the only manager that I put on a par with Fergie - Brian Clough. I realised then that the FA and by implication the England team was run not for fans like me but for the self-agrandissement of a selection of "know-littles". As a result, we have had the wrong managers , wrong teams and wrong tactics. The prat there now is the ultimate example of this. Secondly, I do care what happens at OT. But I am not blind. Fergie has been without doubt the best manager ever at undermining other managers and teams. He, and not the team, managed to get Keegan to throw away the Championship by his constant mind games. The players picked up the gauntlet and did everything right but Newcastle managed to throw away, what was it, a 10 pt lead. His constant niggling with Whinger is another example and the fact that he quite rightly respects Mourhinho means that his attempts in that area are quite muted. Notice also that M's respect for SAF means he tries little too. Thirdly, SAF does not respect SVen. Not only that, he also feels that Sven does not act in the best interests of MU. But that is not Sven's job. Without doubt, Roo is very important to both parties. But in this instance, the best interest of England can do serious damage to the best interests of MU. And who decides what happens? Who has made it abundantly clear in one very bad-tempered interview who makes THE decision? So what does the other party do? He makes it very clear that all the cards are not in Sven's hand. In a minor way, he reminds Sven that he still has responsibilities to the Prem. Fourthly, you support England and claim equal allegiance. A number of the parties in this case do not share your views. Perhaps you should spend a couple of weeks in Scotland to see exactly what the feelings are there. I have and I KNOW. Did you want Arsenal to win the CL? Well I didn't anymore than I wanted Chelsea to beat Barca earlier. Call it unpatriotic if you like but allegiance doesn't work like that. It's not a logical process - it's about passion. I'm sure that at the end of this, the best decisions will be made because they cannot afford to make the expensive wrong ones. But make no mistake, decisions like the Carrick bid are done with thought and care rather than petulance. A message was sent! It wasn't shouted but nevertheless it was clear - be careful; you might think you hold all the cards but play them wisely
And I think it's libel not slander.............

People are looking for stories which aren't there to fill up papers and media time.. They way i see it going is Rooney will not be started whilst Owen and Crouch are fit, if we are doing badly in games until say the 60th minute or so then Rooney comes on to change things, if not we keep Rooney on the bench for as long as we can get away with it without needing him, until the group stages of course.
