DWIGHT YORKE has revealed how Alex Ferguson demanded he derail England’s World Cup bid when they clash in Nuremberg tomorrow.
The former Manchester United striker, playing out of his skin in midfield for Trinidad & Tobago, lines up against England at the Franken Stadion.
And his old boss at Old Trafford is hoping that TnT can cause a Group B explosion by pulling off the shock of the tournament.
Everyone north of the border would love to see England humiliated by Trinidad and Scot Fergie has sent Yorke his best wishes.
Yorke, who sharpened up by training with United at the end of last season, said: “Everyone from Scotland, including Sir Alex, has made it clear they want us to do well against England. If we do well, I’m sure Sir Alex will be on the phone the next day.
“We never thought we’d be playing against England in a million years in a World Cup.
“I can’t thank Sir Alex and his staff enough. They made me feel as if I was one of their players again. They got me in good nick for this competition.
“Sir Alex told me to go out and enjoy the occasion, the moment, because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, given that I’m coming to the end of my career. He made sure I had a sense of belief because you need that on an occasion like this.”
Many Scots are here rooting for Trinidad, who have five players playing in Scotland.
Yorke, now plying his trade in Australia with Sydney, also revealed how he has been winding up his former United pals like Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville.
He added: “I’ve spoken to Gary and Rio as well as texting them both. The feeling amongst everyone else is great.
“It’s just a bit of banter really. I wished them the best against Paraguay and they wished us the same back.”
