As some of you will know, I have a good friend whose wife works at United. We had a big chat tonight, and he started talking about Mike Stone. He said "Did you hear how he got fired?" and I started talking about Rooney. Then he said, "Nah nah. He came in to the office (the office being the main United office, where balls, shirts etc. get signed for charity, as well as sorting out tickets etc.) saying goodbye. My missus said not many people come in to say goodbye before they going on holiday, and it was then he told he got fired."
A couple of weeks before getting fired, he'd told Fergie he had been offered a spot, once a week, lecturing at Manchester Uni. Fergie told him he'd get back to him. But then a couple of days later he spoke to Gill, saying he was going to take this spot, and Fergie had approved it...even though he hadnt. Word got back to Fergie that Mike had said this, so on the spot, fired him. Obviously, Fergie was having one of those days, and then was pissed off that one of the employees was just going to assume it was OK.
He explained all this to my mates wife, and was crying as he told it. Said that working for United was his dream job, and he was gutted, and blamed himself. Sounds like Fergie was out of order a bit. But it puts to rest to rumours about him losing his job because of the Rooney situation.

No kidding! I can understand being irritated at Mike Stone but doesn't seem like the kind of thing to fire someone over especially if they love what they do.

Yeah I’d say that was a bit harsh too.

It's a bit harsh to sack him on the spot but the guy lied and if the United job was his dream job then why would he risk it by telling lies?

He tried to undermine Fergie - we all know what happens we someone does that.
Its not as if he's irreplaceable - there are other doctors out there.

I wonder if united have ever been involved in an unfair dismissal tribunal!!! Depends whether his contract had a moonlighting clause in it or not!!! Bit of a silly thing to do though... reckon if i was in my dream job, i wouldnt do anything to risk it! As it is i keep trying to get fired but no one's paying attention!
