Read this: Man Utd launch one-year season ticketManchester United have launched a new ’one-year’ season ticket in an effort to satisfy long-term demand at the expanded 76,000-capacity Old Trafford. After failing to win the Premier League title or make any significant impact in Europe over the past three seasons, many pundits claimed the Red Devils would struggle to fill the stadium with the capacity increased by 8,000 seats at a cost of £39m (€56.2m). Those fears have only been enhanced by the requirement for new season ticket holders to join the automati cup scheme, which forces them to purchase seats for all cup games regardless of the opposition. The lack of incoming transfer activity and continuing uncertainty over the futures of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo is casting a further shadow over Alex Ferguson’s squad ahead of the new campaign. However, far from finding interest in the club dwindling, United have been overwhelmed by the response. With all 52,000 available season tickets snapped up, club officials did consider just releasing more, even though, because of regulations surrounding visiting allocations for domestic cup ties, admission to the stadium for all games could not be guaranteed. Instead, the extra tickets, which do not carry an automatic right to renewal, will be offered on a ’first-come-first-served’ basis to existing members, with the names of the successful applicants being placed at the top of a waiting list for subsequent campaigns. www.eecho.ie/news/bstory.asp?j=188216776&p=y88zy748z&n=188217536and read into it what you like...

This is to satisfy the phenomenal demand not a sign of the demand for tickets at OT dying. It's good news for the club.

I like it when we are hated, it spurs the team on and if Ronaldo returns as is expected it will spur him on too.
Anyways I'm rambling. The ticket sales are boosting United's income which is good news but as well as that Glazer is in the process of refinancing his debts a second time if some reports are to be believed, this will reduce the debts further more.

M.E.N. Sport understands United are set to almost double the £254m of debt sitting against the club's name - but in return will be able to get rid of the current high-interest loans which would have led the club into a debt minefield."

The high interest loans will be paid off and replaced by loans with less interest rates therefore cutting the debts, even though only slightly!

Adz is right as that will reduce the debt. Also, although the debt sitting against the clubs name is only £254 mill (apparently), this isn't the reality as the Glazers have a higher debt than this and their personal finances also reflects on the club. It might sound a lot when the debt is "doubled" but there's a lot of factors to be taken into consideration.

they are intending to pay off the high interest loans by taking out bigger loans to cover the penalties and interest already accrued on the high interest loans
the new loans therefor have to be for more than the old (high interest) loans, the financial experts at the MEN think this will DOUBLE the debt
