From BBC:
Wayne Rooney has been suspended for two matches and fined £2,400 by Fifa following his red card against Portugal in the World Cup quarter-final. World football's governing body found the 20-year-old striker guilty of violent conduct as a result of his stamp on defender Ricardo Carvalho.
The Manchester United star will miss England's Euro 2008 qualifying matches against Andorra and Macedonia.
He will be available again for the home game against Macedonia on 7 October.

Other players charged with the same thing have been handed 5 match bans, and if admitted it and said sorry, they received 4.
So why, after Rooney denied he did it, have FIFA only given him a 2 match ban? If England played for an hour with 10 men for no reason, then how stupid would FIFA look? "Yeh I know our ref cocked up... and I know you're now out of the World Cup, but er, that's life."
If they believed Rooney intentionally stamped on Carvalho, they DEFINATELY would have punished him more severely than a 2 match ban, especially considering he denied the accusations. Fifa are a joke.

That's the first bit of leniency we've had from FIFA or the Blazers. They usually are ALWAYS right and for them to say "We're not sure" in this way is amazing. Mind you, this decision is typical of all the cock-ups they've made. Starting with the ball, refs directives, upholding bad decisions, changing refs' directives. Are we surprised at anything?

I agree, them not handing out a tougher bit of punishment is just them saying "Well, the ref's decision stands, but he could have been wrong."
It's a shame Rooney is going to miss 2 matches, but hell, it could be worse.

What's happened has happened, and to be fair, nothing we can do about it now. When it comes to FIFA admitting a mistake, that is as close as we're going to get.

It will do him good anyway, just some consequence that will make him think and it will make him grow as a player, he will be better for it and learn from it, hes going to harness his temper into passion for the game which will make him an all round much better footballer than he even is now, when a player plays with passion it can make up for a slight lack even in ability, put the ability and passion together you have a winner baby, Rooney will be phenominal when he comes back for England and will work twice as hard, international defences, watch out!

May be FIFA secretly hate Carvalho and were glad that this nuts got stamped on. ;D (I know I'm glad that it was him on the receiving end). Typical inconsistent and corrupt FIFA. For England's sake, at least he's only missing the Andorra and Macedonia games (hardly the toughest of opponents).
