It is business as usual for Sir Alex Ferguson and his players as the Reds take on Orlando Pirates at the Absa stadium in Durban this afternoon. Despite news that striker Ruud van Nistelrooy wants away from Old Trafford, the Reds boss prefers to focus on his side’s first match of the 2006/07 pre season. At a pre match press conference on the first day of the 10-day South Africa tour he said he was positively excited at the new season getting underway. "We are looking forward to it. It’s always an exciting time for any footballer when they’ve had their pre season training and the matches begin," said Sir Alex. "This year’s break has been particularly long for the group of players we have here, with the exception of one or two who had internationals at the beginning of June. None the less it’s been an unusually long pre season. "There will be eight internationals starting this game so the expectation is still there and I expect them to show why they are at this club. "Hopefully it will be a good game and I think it will be a difficult one because they [the Pirates] have graced themselves against Premiership opposition before. But that’s what we want, that’s what we need. "We want them to stretch us, to test us, because if they do that we’ll get our fitness. It’s our first game but after 13 days preparation we should be ready." www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid={B4CEE8FA-9A47-47BC-B069-3F7A2F35DB70}&newsid=346724&page=2

The 4-0 win was good, nice to see Ole on the sheet and Scholes have a good game apparently so its all looking good, shame Foster wasnt tested much though

Not so much of a test, playing against a bunch of one eye’s. Although in saying that, it’s nice the lads are having a run out. This pre-tour will do them good, especially the likes of Ole and Scholes.

That being the case it's good they won by a considerable margin because if they're only scoring one goal against an opponent of less quality there might have been a bit of concern...

They have also beaten Spurs within the last season, so to win 4-0 wasn't bad at all with all the youth players.

Well friendly or not... I was getting well into it and screaming like if it was the first match of the league or summat Great to see Giggs and Scholes together, interacting even better than before. And no need to mention I was happy seing Ole doing well. Ben Foster didn't have much to do, but what he did have to do he did with great confidence and looks very secure. Definitely a goalie for the future that one. Bardsley looked good too, so did Brown and the kids as well. All around good performance for a little kick about!

Hate bein here, I dint get to watch the fookin match *stamps in tantrum* They were giving the match at the pub I go to but I couldn't go as my wife taught this morning so I was with my daughter...though I was tempted to strap her into the baby carrier and make my way to the pub...don't think that would have earned me any praises from the Dept. of Child Welfare...
