Ole Aims for Fitness

Solskjaer reminded United boss Sir Alex Ferguson of his goalscoring prowess by netting twice in Saturday's 4-0 victory over Orlando Pirates.

He was replaced at half time and the 33-year-old admits his target is to build up his fitness to be available for United's season opener against Fulham.

"The main thing is not who scores the goals, but getting match fitness," Solskjaer told MUTV. "But a goal or two helps.

"With those lads being away after the World Cup it is important for those of us who didn't go to have a good pre-season.

"I have missed the past two pre-seasons, so I have been looking forward to this for a long time.

"The main thing now is getting match fitness and getting ready for August 19. I'm just enjoying every game and every training session."

Ferguson praised the contribution of Solskjaer and did not want to put too much pressure on the forward by fielding him in the second half.

He added: "I was really pleased for him. We hoped he would get through pre-season training first of all. He was fantastic in every session and he was involved.

"I thought 45 minutes was fine for him. There is no point pushing him."

He looked great in todays match, energetic and scored gorgeous goals. Plus... he is Norwegian, he is brilliant for that reason alone

great to have our super sub back and firing maybe he'll help us kill off those stubborn defensive teams we struggled against last season on a few occasions.
