Yeh Ned, Terry is a great defender, one of the best going. But he did have an average World Cup, do you not think? Aside from how good he is when he has Cech behind him and Makelele in front of him at Chelsea, for England this summer he wasnt at all special. I really like him, which is strange, because I rarely like an rivals players, but he wasnt good this World Cup.

rio unglamourously spots a problem before it is a problem and removes it.
terry will put a block / tackle / goal line clearance in at the last gasp and it gets the headlines.
you need both types of players and they are both great defenders.
if it wasnt for terry's characteristic "uncharacteristic mistakes" he'd have been my england player of the tournament

with his leadership abilities he becomes world class
imo without them he becomes a good defender

Not sure what a statement like that by SAF actually means being the best player in the present England team during the world cup is not much of a achievement is it?

rio was the best england player by a fookin mile against portugal and was pretty decent in the rest of the games so imo he was englands player of the tournament

RIO! RIO!..he was top class this WC. I think he should have been it it but it's over-rated JT who always gets put before him. Rio is the best defender in the World imo, he makes defending look piss easy whereas JT makes it look dead hard, maybe why he is so under rated!

All this talk about Rio OR Terry misses the point that they complement each other and are about as good a pair as England have had for a while. In the WC, we tend to judge by mistakes and there's no doubt that Terry made more of them.
At least be thankful that they were together. Don't forget it's not that long ago that Sven dropped Rio for Campbell and Rio only played because of injury.

Yeh I'd quite happily take Terry at United, but I think the point that is coming across is that Rio had a better tournament than Terry, and this should have been recognised (but UEFA have some weird love/hate relationship with Chelsea...hence why that clown Fat Frankie was said to be the 2nd best player in the world) |

Rio was excellent.
But dont dump on Terry just cause he's a chav.
He had a fair tournament for an underacheiving squad of pop stars!
Looked like England were wearing shakles at times..........
