From The Times:
MANCHESTER UNITED’S hard-line stance with Real Madrid over Ruud van Nistelrooy has been intensified by a distrust of the new regime at the Spanish club, whom United suspect of making an illegal approach to the Holland forward.
The Barclays Premiership club are unlikely to report Real, with an agreement over a transfer fee regarded as beneficial for all parties, but ill feeling has crept into negotiations between the clubs as they haggle over the terms of the expected £13 million deal.
The United board has been unhappy with Real’s conduct since it emerged that a verbal agreement had been reached with Van Nistelrooy’s agent, Rodger Linse, over a three-year contract. Their frustration is with Real, rather than Linse, and it has grown over the past 48 hours with the Spanish club’s unwillingness to meet a £15 million asking price at a time when Sir Alex Ferguson’s hopes of replacing Van Nistelrooy with Fernando Torres are receding because of Atlético Madrid’s resistance.
Predrag Mijatovic, the new Real technical director, has proposed success-related payments to bridge the shortfall over Van Nistelrooy — such as an extra goalscorer in La Liga next season — but United are holding out for a guaranteed sum, mindful of what happened when David Beckham joined Real in 2003, with the Spanish club’s failures over the past three seasons leaving them with at least £2 million less than the projected £25 million fee.
Despite United’s unhappiness, Ramón Calderón, the new Real president, sounded comfortable with the situation yesterday. “We just have to wait with regards to Van Nistelrooy,” Calderón said. “From what Mijatovic has told me, the player wants to play for Real Madrid. Manchester United will want to obtain as much money as possible and that is logical.”

In fairnesss everybody taps up players... I only have a problem with it when its Chelski doing the tapping I don't like saying this about someone i've grown to love over the past few years but never the less i hope they come to an agreement and get RVN sold so that we can use it to get Torres. I wish they could get it done quicker this season our start will be important so we need a team as settled as possible.

Well Bayern are today claiming that Ruud wants to go there and insist Real is not where he'd rather be. Pushes up the price though with Bayern making such claims.

I reckon we'll get much more out of givin him to Bayern Munchen, this seems to be turning into a transfer thread though.
Anyways, back to the topic... Of course Madrid where probably a bit outta line with their enquiries, but that's football, I very much doubt it that anyone is surprised.

From 365:
Ruud van Nistelrooy faces the ignominy of being fined almost £200,000 by United if his transfer to Real Madrid not completed by the start of next week.
The deal has reached an impasse with both parties reputedly playing hard-ball. Following ManYoo's £15m public valuation of the Dutchman, Madrid stubbornly refused to improve their original bid of around £10m on Wednesday. The Spanish giants want to spread out their payments for the striker, a scenario unpalatable to ManYoo given their need for instant funds to finance a move for Fernando Torres.
Van Nistelrooy is due to return to pre-season training with ManYoo next Monday. Should he fail to appear then he faces an automatic fine of two weeks' wage – around £180,000.
Van Nistelrooy's future is further complicated by reports that ManYoo's hard-line stance has been strengthened by the belief that Madrid made an illegal approach.
'Ill feeling has crept into negotiations between the clubs as they haggle over the terms of the expected £13 million deal,' reports The Times. 'The United board has been unhappy with Real's conduct since it emerged that a verbal agreement had been reached with Van Nistelrooy's agent, Rodger Linse, over a three-year contract.
'Their frustration is with Real, rather than Linse, and it has grown over the past 48 hours with the Spanish club's unwillingness to meet a £15 million asking price at a time when Sir Alex Ferguson’s hopes of replacing Van Nistelrooy with Fernando Torres are receding because of Atlético Madrid's resistance.'

I don't see how anyone can be tapped up with agents around. Linse has a wander and goes to Spain and happens to meet a guy from Madrid. "Hows Things?" "OK. Ruud fancies a bit of sun tho'" "Has he tried Madrid?" " Funny you should say that. He was only saying yesterday that for £90,000 ( aweek) he wouldn't mind a change from Manchester" "Tell you what, ask him whether he prefers a villa or an apartment for this three year holiday. I'll have a word with Alex about buying his house in Manchester. What's it worth £10 mill? £12 mill? "
Now that's not tapping up is it?

I wouldn't be surprised if there were some tapping but I'm more concerned about the amount we get for him; Bayern making their presence felt in the negotiating process will only help our cause. I think the 13mil would be a fair compromise if we do sell to Madrid.

I just hope it really sticks the spanner in etc. thanks to Bayern

TBH im sick of the Ruud situation, I hope he goes to Bayern, if he was tapped up or not it doesnt matter he will be going so it isnt like anyone is attemptiong to lure him away when we dont want him to go

Whats gunna happen, they gunna be fined, ooooo
With cheating etc its inexcusable, if a team is caught 'tapping up' they should be ban from transfer dealing, or can sign people but they wont be eligible to play until the next summer
Diving, play acting or anything of the like shouyld be punished with immediate bans and point reduction
People will moan and say thats harsh but \at the end of the day, we teach children not to lie and cheat etc not damn adults and if your not going to cheat (which you shouldnt be doing anyway!) you have nothing to worry about atall do you??
