just saw Sky Sports New - had an interview with SAF he states he is happy if we dont make any signings..
so my question and be honest.. if we start the season with no new signings, can we really challange Chelsea for the title, because I for one doubt very much we can.
Ballack has shown he is still a world class player.. so Chelsea have a midfield that makes our look like a sunday league team.. sorry to sound so negative but I say it as I see it...

With the team we have? No, it pains me to say it but we'll be in a fight to keep second place, Arsenal had a nightmare start to last season and we can't hope to get that lucky again and now Liverpool might be able to score which is worrying.
Chelsea signed 2 world class players, the type of players who can single handedly win tournaments let alone matches, and who have we signed...no-one! Chelsea were miles ahead of us last season and now with Schevchenko leading the line they'll score more than last season so I don't think with our current squad we can catch them.

1 - We are NOT going to start without any new signings errrrr we have till September for crying out loud, weve made alotof great signings, late on before, would you all be happy with Bellamy and the likes? I wouldnt be satisfiedso I would rather wait for signings that are quality i.e another Rooney, than get average players right now
2 - Sheva AND Ballack are getting on and call me hopeful but we dont even know if they will gel into thegame, Sheva played in Italy, a totally different way of playing, also with all the players at Chelsea next year, I think there are going to be some arguments, im not too concerned about Chelsea
3 - The fact that Chelsea matteris a myth, no one matter, only our results, Chelseas team can affect opurpoints tally in TWO games, no more, as long as were consistent we can keep with them and judging by the end of last seasons performance, add Scholes, Heinzeand Smith into themix, plus whoever we sign and we have a great team
4 - Chelsea are going to have fun and games getting that lot to work as one - period
So I ask, why areyou worrying?

If we had this squad now, and picked up no serious injuries throughout the season then yes.

With the squad of players we have now, no. Although, who can compete with Chelsea? With the money they’re throwing around, they’ve stepped everything up a level and brought a whole new meaning to the word football.

YES! Even if we don't sign anyone. It doesn't matter how many "world class" players Chelsea have and how many "world class" players we don't have in midfield. We showed last season that we can compete with them, we just need more consitency from the likes of Smith and Oshea and a bit more from Richardson ect. Superstars don't make you a great team it takes work, its a team game, and all of our players are talented or they wouldn't be here, so now it's up to Fergie to get them gelling as a team, in particular Ronaldo and we will be right up their!

Damn right, Saha.
When a team boasts a defence of Heinzé, Ferdinand, Vidic, Brown and Neville with Van Der Sar behind them. There isn't much better.
With the likes of Park, Ronaldo, Giggs and Scholes in the midfield supporting a strikerforce of Rooney, Saha and maybe, possibly Ruud van Nistelrooy there is reason to be cheerful!

And I think rewdie got it right, Shev and Ballack wont fit in straight awayif at all, and Chelsea's start could suffer, and lets see how they cope comming from behind when the pressure's really on!
I'd like us to sign players in midfield but only if it's the right one (Gattusso) the more I think about it the less I really want Carrick in midfield and definately not Diarra. Infact if we can't get the right players in then I think it could end up being a good thing. It would be a huge responsibility for the likes of Smith, Oshea, Brown, Ronny, Richardson and Rooney. And it might just be the making of a few of them. "you win nothing with kids"

Chelski have added to a championship winning team, if the new signings don't work all they have to do is fall back on the players that won them convincingly the championship. They've strengthened not replaced. We on the other hand are replacing, (i hope), which means that our new players if any are signed, will have to be starters, will have to work bloody well for us to be successful. The same pressure is not on Chelski or their players.
We all hope that it goes tits-up at the rent boys, but there's no good reason to think it will.

Well they've lost Gudjohnson ( who was more important I think than Mourinho knows) and Duff and potentially Gallas (if he goes they will be weak at the back). I don't think Lampard will have a good season this year and I don't think Ballack will be anything to write home about. I have a seneaky feeling Shev won't be as good. I think they're going to drop Maka to make way for Essien Ballack and Lampard and that will be a simliar mistake that Madrid made and never recovered from . We'll see after the first 6 games!

I think your clutching at straws to say that Fat Frank, Ballack and Shevchenko won't have an impression on the Premiership next season. They won't miss Duff, they have enough adequate replacements, although Gudjohnson was quality in midfield last season there is nothing he could do that Ballack can't (As a midfielder). I agree that if they drop Maka it will be at their peril so im all for that Chelski have added to a championship winning team, if the new signings don't work all they have to do is fall back on the players that won them convincingly the championship. Rewdie, Saha ha ha and Adam have already made the right arguments... so I'm just gonna say, Yes we can challenge Chelsea.
