I thought Richie Jones was the best of the youngsters tonight. Smudger saved himself through 90 mins for extra time. ;D

Phew, well that was a bit of a shambles wasn't it? at least we managed to get through it, two little moments of quality got us the result. Out of the Jones' I actually thought David showed the most signs of quality, he made a fair few mistakes but so did everyone else, I'd like to see him play in a team of better players.
The highlight of the night for me was Rossi scoring, delighted to see him bag one for Newcastle tonight, now Roeder has no excuses not to start him in the prem, he took it really well and hopefully it will be the first of a few.

That was a good game of football, but I think it goes without saying the best team won. Crewe deserved their goal, because they'd been putting some decent pressure on us (which we should have dealt with!) but United dominated the majority if the play in the game, and hit the woodwork twice. Ole's goal was great. He makes difficult things look so simple. So chuffed for Lee. Can you imagine scoring a goal on your debut for United in extra time that sees you to the next round of the Cup?? Thought it was a bit risky starting such a weak side, especially with no real back up on the bench, but it paid off. That mixed race lad with the braids for Crewe, forgotten his name, looked pretty handy!
Southend in the next round? Weren't much better sides we could have had! Hope Fergie plays a stronger side for it though

That mixed race lad with the braids for Crewe, forgotten his name, looked pretty handy! Nick Maynard. He’s a good little player. Crewe’s leading scorer with 10. [ Edit] Sir Alex Ferguson felt Manchester United were 'very lucky' to beat Crewe Alexandra in the Carling Cup. A goal late into extra time from debutant Kieran Lee clinched a 2-1 success for the holders at Gresty Road in the third round.
But Ferguson was unhappy with his team's performance and felt the League One side deserved to go through to a fourth round tie with Southend United.
"We were very lucky," Ferguson told Sky Sports 1. "I think we used up a bit of luck tonight.
"Credit to Crewe. I think they were the better team. They created many chances, and we missed some ourselves.
"It was a pretty open game and I thought it was played at a great pace, with a lot of energy spent in the game.
"We were a bit careless in the whole performance. Right from the start we gave Crewe a foot in the game and we shouldn't be allowing them to do that."
He added: "Football never changes. It's an amazing game because there were seven internationals for Manchester United and we were expected to win.
"But you have to work as hard as the other team before you have the right to win a football match and we didn't work as hard as them.
"I think Mikael Silvestre it was his first game for five or six weeks, Gabriel Heinze needs games and these kind of games will help them.
"Young David Jones it was his first game of the season, Kieran Richardson has shown he needs games, but it's no excuse. I was looking for a better performance from the whole team." --------

Thing is, half of those lads tonight won't ever have *played with each other before this week, thats why at first Arsenal's way of playing in the cup works, they just use an entire youth team who know each other. But if they don't get used to playing with the first team, it makes it harder later, thats where our guys learn better by mixing with the first team in these games. My god Heinze had a crap night! Along with most the defence.. Maybe Kuszazk could have done better on the goal, he seems to have pulled off loads of good saves against Arsenal before and again tonight, then on the goals a little lack of concentration maybe Or just a dam good finish i'd have to see it again. That last goal was one hell of a finish, Saha can't even pull them off half the time in the same circumstances

In fact mate everybody trains together at United, so all the players know each other. Also throughout the ranks from U8s to the first team they all play 4-4-2 so adapting to the formation is also an invalid excuse.
Thinking about it some of these were our Reserves' Reserves, lol. Because most of our first choice reserves are out on loan, so the futures bright for United me thinks.
I have a bad feeling Heinzé's United career will be cut short through injuries, he just seems to be one of those players to me. I love the lad as well he's excellent and when fully fit and on form possibly the best left back in the World.

Must say, Ole played brilliantly tonight, despite it being a very poor performance.

Re teh Jones both are going to be quality, both need experience, and they need it fast, I would like to see them paired together for a run of matches and see how their partnership develops, both are fairly box to box players. With Heinze, in the games he has played (admitedlly he hasn't been anywhere near full fitness) hes been caught out of place several times, and has put in the odd tackle. He needs a good stretch of games to see him through, for me in his frst season for us, he was th best left back in the world without question, even A Cole isnt as good defensively as Heinze, though he compensates with his attacks.

I did say "possibly" which means that he's mine but people will differ with opinion.
So I suppose I was the only one to notice the misprint on Kusczak's shirt with it saying Zuzcszak...a real sack the kit man moment there.
