Reds defender Mikael Silvestre undwerwent a training session on the pitch after United's 2-0 victory over Liverpool and is likely to play on Wednesday night against Crewe Alexandra in the Carling Cup. United begin the defence of their Carling Cup crown by travelling to Gresty Road this week. While the rest of his team-mates were savouring a well-earned win over United's North west neighbours, the Frenchman, who broke his foot against Arsenal last month, was out on the Old Trafford being put through his paces by Reds fitness coach Valter di Salvo. Silvestre is likely to be joined by fellow returning Reds Gabriel Heinze, who is also set to play against Crewe. Reds boss Sir Alex confirmed that the pair will both be involved in the League Cup, along with Tomasz Kuszczak, Alan Smith, Wes Brown, Kieran Richardson, David and Ritchie Jones, and Alan Smith. -Manutd.com Is it me or reading the United site after the Liverpool game the amount of mistakes in it looks like the editor is a tad drunk..

I think it’s about time David Jones got a run out. Dead right. And not before time. I hope he takes his chance. By the sounds of it he'll be in a strong enough side too which will help him.

Yeah I think he should already have been given a chance in the prem, at least a few minutes at the end of games, but this will give him the opportunity to put in a performance, it will be good to see Smith playing too and hopefully he can get a fair few minutes under his belt, shame Rossi isn't here to get some game time.

All change at Crewe for Fergie's expressGABRIEL Heinze and Mikael Silvestre are set to return to action for United when they begin their defence of the Carling Cup at Crewe tomorrow night. The two defenders are both expected to be in the squad for the trip to Gresty Road, as manager Sir Alex Ferguson again uses the early stages of the competition as a means of giving games to fringe players and those coming back from injury. Goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, Alan Smith, Wes Brown, Kieran Richardson, David Jones and Richie Jones are all lined up for an appearance for the Third Round tie. Heinze has not played for three matches after suffering a mild hamstring problem, while Silvestre is set to return over three weeks ahead of schedule after breaking his foot against Arsenal in September. The competition, which United won by beating Wigan 4-0 in the final last year, is a welcome break from the Premiership. Snatch But striker Wayne Rooney believes the team is ready to snatch the Premiership crown away from Chelsea. "I think the younger players like myself, Cristiano Ronaldo and Darren Fletcher are getting better and more consistent each year," says Rooney, who turned 21 today. "We're all learning more about each other's game and that's helping the whole team." Meanwhile, Gary Neville says that beating old enemy Liverpool on Sunday has given United a huge boost in their chase for the Premiership title. "The confidence that you get from winning these matches is fantastic and it can help to take you forward," says the Reds' skipper.

Kuszack Simpson Brown O'Shea Silvestre/Heinze/Some reserve Richardson Jones Gibson Fletcher Smith Ole That's the team I'd expect. Thats not a bad side on paper, but isn't Gibson in Antwerp? I think Richie Jones is expected to play alongside David in centre mid.

Crewe v Man Utd Manchester United's Alan Smith will start his first game recovering from a broken leg. First-teamers Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Kieran Richardson and fit-again duo Gabriel Heinze and Mikael Silvestre are all set to feature.
Crewe will definitely miss forward Rodney Jack through illness.
Gary Roberts (suspension) is also out, along with Billy Jones (hamstring), Darren Moss (hernia), Lee Matthews (knee) and Luke Rodgers (ankle).
Manchester United (from): Kuszczak, Heaton, Lee, Shawcross, Brown, Silvestre, Heinze, Gray, Solskjaer, Marsh, D Jones, R Jones, O'Shea, Fletcher, Richardson, Smith, Burns.
Smith to start!!!! Yes!!!!! ;D

Solskjaer - Fletcher - Jones - Richardson
Rooney - Smith
I agree with the Kuszcak and the defense, but I think it'll be a Ritchie and David Jones in central mid with Fletch playing wide right. He's been quite effective there this year. And Rooney defenitely won't start, I know he needs a goal, but we can't risk him in a game like this. It'll defenitely be Smith and Ole up front.
