i do know carrick tackle success rate is incredibly high I've got the vague memeory that Scholes came out as one of our most prolific tacklers and defied popular opinion by having quite a respectable success rate. That's not much of a surprise. But again, I've got a vague memory that I was surprised by how many successful tackles he had made - not impressive numbers but better than I'd have guessed. I've seen him delay people, and force them into dead ends but actually winning the ball? Lies, damned lies and statistics eh. I've still got Nani listed as a "crash in and hope" sort of a tackler. Maybe he'll change my mind.

To say the truth, everyone is frustrated because the opening game of the season which was also played at home should have been won. I saw the bench and thought WTF? No striker? But that was the least of my concerns, the thing that really bugs me is that Giggs was played behind Rooney. I`m not going to take a shot at Giggs but i honestly feel that Nani should be given the nod ahead of Giggs for the plain and simple reason that he is the better player. I``m not at all saying this because we lost yesterday but i thought about it before ( F.A cup final and ACMilan). Nani is ready and we`ve already seen it. Giggs however should not be ignored and i think he could make an impact by coming off the bench.
I`m gutted for Rooney, He looked so sharp and on target. I really thought this was going to be his season.
I`m backing Carrick to come through, He will soon replace Scholes and i`m sure of it. Him and Hargreaves against Pompey for me.

Couldnt agree more with David Gill. We should have atleast have a striker on the bench. Its better to have an unfit striker than having a defender play as one.
Definitely gutted by the result even more so seeing how our rivals did, all came back late on and won.
I'm hoping Fergie starts with a more possitive lineup against Pompey with Ronaldo and Nani on the flanks, Owen and Carrick in the middle. Scholes could be the man behind Tevez for now. I think he will be more effective than Giggs playing there. Hell we could give Anderson a shot.

im so sorry for Roon and i hope the injury is not too serious the weird thing is O'Shea didn't do too bad as stricker considering the fact he's a defender...but yes we should have had a stricker on the bench and seeing Tevez in the stands pissed me off.

pretty disastrous start to the season really isnt it. i thought we played some good attacking football and completely bossed reading off the field... but it all counts for shit if you dont find the back of the net, something we just didnt even come close enough to doing.
disappointed in quite a few players really. after all this fighting talk over the summer about defending our title bla bla bla far too many of our players, including the experienced ones, just did not seem up for it yesterday. took their foot off the pedal too soon.
rooney looked superb for those 45 minutes, and its a shame now that all his work over the summer was for nothing. it could have/should be a big year for wayne this season, so i hope he makes a full recovery soon.

After 15 mins I guessed the result...
Pretty disappointed TBH - thought we looked 'unsure'
Reading did as they were asked - we looked unable to 'really' break them down - even when we had chances - Scholes header...
Never mind lets hope there are no more frustrating days - but Reading proved how to play against us - we need to learn how to overcome this now!
Nani looked good - but first impressions were 'its another Ronaldo'
Roll on Weds and a positive outcome - Tevez & Hargreaves to start me thinks...

I thought it was a good atmosphere. I was sat in the East stand above the Reading fans. They were terrible by the way! I have been at quieter days at O.T. It seemed to quiten down around the half an hour mark and got livlier again at the end. Fucking fans left early again. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. People around me were leaving 15 minutes before the end. Dicks. and these 2 birds next to me didn't make a sound. They were talking about the fucking crisps they had bought for crying out loud!

lol, I went too, was in North tier 1. I thought the atmosphere was pretty good really, considering it was a frustating game to watch. I don't understand who would leave early! Crazy considering we were playing against ten men, piling on the pressure.

where were you sat ali? stretford end and nw quadrant didnt stop singing.. pretty good atmosphere if you ask me. i even saw the south stand singing at times! Shockingly Eh! Me and my bro sit just to the right of the Family stand corner part and the fans round there (not including us ) can be pretty shit, its a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance when everyone starts singing stand up for the champions and me any my bro plus about half the people around us stand up and sing it while half just sit there doing nothing. Boring twats what ever happened to getting behind your team, i mean if they don't stand up they don't see the game so they might as well put some effort in just for that reason
