Sir Alex Ferguson cannot wait to sample Sunday's clash with Liverpool, insisting that fixtures between the pair are unrivalled in English football.
"This is a game separate from everything, it has different tendancies to any other game," said Sir Alex. "I think it's fair to say we look upon each other as our main rivals in English football, so it's separate from everything.
"You have the geography, the history of the clubs, the ability of the players, the competition, the passion and fervour of the fans. Liverpool's support is a big component of that club, particularly against United. You have to be a man to handle that atmosphere. If you are a lamb, you are dead."
Despite slipping to a shock defeat at Reading last weekend, Liverpool's midweek win over Marseille takes them into Sunday's fixture on a high, although Sir Alex hinted that he would not have relished the fixture if the Merseysiders had crashed out of Europe.
"There are twodifferent ways of looking at it," he said. "You could have Liverpool as a wounded animal going into the game, or as they are. Sometimes a wounded animal is more dangerous."
United go into the match six points ahead of their local rivals, but having played a game more. Sir Alex admits Liverpool are well in the title picture alongside Arsenal and Chelsea, who also lock horns on Sunday.
"Liverpool have got a game in hand, haven't they," he said. "Three points is nothing in this league, it's a competitive league now. Arsenal were six points ahead of us two weeks ago, now it's one.
"With Chelsea going to Arsenal as well, if it was March or April then it would without doubt be a significant weekend, but it's halfway through the season.
"Two draws will be the favourite scorelines, they're two difficult games to call. Certainly I'm looking at Arsenal and Chelsea and hoping it's a draw. Whenever your rivals play each other, you hope they'll drop points."

God I hope we beat the Scousers on Sunday. I'm scared about Torres though, hopefully big Vid will deal with him.

Van Der Sar
Brown - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Ronaldo - Hargreaves - Anderson - Giggs
Rooney - Tevez Not predicting anything but I really want Ronaldo to score his first goal against the Dippers and I think it may come this time around especially with the goalscoring streak he is on. Rooney will be fired up as usual and it'd be interesting to see how Anderson plays, if selected, because he played well against Arsenal and is looking good for United. We have everything there to win this game, the last six games in the league have brought 5 victories and 1 draw for United so we're going good. Another 1-0 will do me, I'd love for us to spank 'em in their own back yard though. C'mon United! Yeah same team and same sentiment. A victory and no injuries would see me a happy man You have to fancy Ronaldo to score with the form he's in. Tevez's day I reckon. I cant see us coreing less than 3, I dont know why but I think we might just spank um. But clean sheet and just the 1 goal for us will do me fine.

Huge match and I cant wait for it. Im predicting a comfortable 2-0 win with Rooney and Ronaldo scoring. Would be a great time for Tevez to score his first away goal tho

Mark #Wa# Lawrenson's prediction Liverpool will win this one - they know they have to if they are going to make any challenge for the title. They lost to United twice last year but Liverpool created a whole host of chances in the matches and were a little bit unfortunate, I feel.
Why people get excited about these games, though, I will never know. They are never good games to watch - they are absolutely awful! TOSSER Why prople get excited about these games Idiot !

We've won 4 out of our last 5 games at Anfield, and so why shouldn't we do that again tomorrow? We have our arguably strongest side since 99, and only 2 Liverpool players would be able to start in our team. We are better than them without doubt, and I know we can beat the scum comfortably.
It is a massive weekend for all the Big 4 teams, as this will shape how we go into the toughest and busiest part of the season. Now let's get back to where we belong. Come on you Reds!!!!!

I think it will be a mistake to let one individual mark Torres. He is a clever character, and if he realises that Ferdinand is man marking him, he will tend to drift wide, which will cause problems in the middle, Zonal marking, as we have been doing throughout the season, would the ideal ploy to work against the Scousers. And as I've mentioned earlier, Hargreaves might have to drop back into the whole occasionally if the need arises.

I'm dead nervous about this match. We've got the better team though, and the scousers have been unpredictable as of late, so hopefully we will get all three points. If we win and Chelsea get a point of Arsenal, that'd be heavenly.

Would be great to see an all-black away section, with lots of banners!
Cannot wait, the mixture of excitement and fear, is a mixture this game gets into me that no other game can! And those stats on another thread are quality btw, I have had fun with them!
