Maybe this belongs in the General area. Sorry, mods. Not sure.
These are interesting figures. (Don't you love sports statisticians?) I would have bet money that we would have had more wins and more goals than these stats state.
From Setanta:
Keegan v Fergie by David Wall, 21 February 2008 Everyone knows he would “just love it” if he beat them as Kevin Keegan prepares to do battle once again with Sir Alex Ferguson’s Red Devils.
Their managerial rivalry goes back to the early seasons of the Premier League. Their first head to head was in August 1993 when Keegan, then in charge of Newcastle, played out a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Since then, there have been memorable tussles, none more so than the occasion when Phillipe Albert’s cheeky chip over Peter Schmeichel completed Newcastle’s 5-0 annihilation of Manchester United at St James’ Park back in October 1996.
That encounter marked Manchester United’s joint-worst defeat in the history of the Premier League but also Keegan’s last game against Ferguson at the helm of The Magpies.
Keegan v Ferguson All-time Record Games 13 Kevin Keegan wins 3 Alex Ferguson wins 5 Draws 5 Keegan goals 17 Ferguson goals 16 Keegan Win % 23% Ferguson Win % 38% Keegan also won his first encounter with The Red Devils as manager of Manchester City in 2002. A memorable 4-1 victory over Ferguson in 2004 was another feather in Keegan’s cap, in the first Manchester derby at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Despite winning three times but finishing on the losing side five times against his Scottish enemy, Keegan’s teams have been the most prolific in front of goal, scoring 17 goals to Ferguson’s tally of 16.
However, the last time the two United’s met in January, just before Keegan’s appointment, the red side of Manchester inflicted Newcastle’s heaviest ever defeat in the Premier League with a 6-0 scoreline.
Saturday’s clash, live on Setanta, promises a few goals.

Very Interesting Stat. An interesting stat i came across... In the last five matches, Without Carrick: 0-4 (4 goals conceded, no goals scored) With Carrick: 9-0 (9 goals scored, none conceded.)
Surely not a lucky coincidence, after a slow start to the season, Carrick is showing his true class, and the form of last year ! Has been immense in the last 2 months or so..
I think he has to start this one along with Hargreaves. Scholesy is not the best form of his life , while I'd prefer to have Anderson on the bench and play a little cameo if required

i've never seen a match thread so quiet the night before a game! I have the feeling this could be tougher than we might expect. We're usually a bit flat after a European mid-week game so really the likes of Saha, Carrick and Nani should all start. And Newcastle, shite as they are, will raise their game, espically in the first half. I hope I'm wrong and it's a walk in the park but this could be a tricky 2-1. To us, obviously!

Fergie said he'll make a few changes so I'm expecting a line up which looks something like this. Van Der Sar
Brown - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Ronaldo - Carrick - Anderson - Nani
Rooney - Tevez I think that line up would lead us to a win, Newcastle look shite at the moment but they always do and teams will always lift their game against us. Rooney seems to always score against these lot, so I'm going for a 3-0 with Rooney grabbing two goals.

The two Portugese lads will run riot. And Rooney has an almost Ruud like scoring record against these guys, Still think it could be tough though.

Don't think a 6-0 drubbing's on the cards this time unfortunately!

I have a bad feeling about this game; as already mentioned United tend to be quite flat/under par after European games.
Therefore, I can certainly see SAF making a few changes; most likely dropping Wes Brown!
I expect the following lineup
VDS O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra Ronaldo, Fletcher, Carrick, Nani Tevez, Rooney
This will be a tough game as Newcastle have had a good rest and will be well up for the challenge.
I'll go for a 2-1 win.

For anyone who's going to the game, I think robnob's Wise song needs a redition, with a slight change to reflect his new club...
Wise, Wise, wherever you may be You left Leeds in Division 3 You twat, Leeds are shit, But now you've joined a sinking ship!!
Is anyone from the forums going?
I'm not as pessimistic as some of you, I think that we should be able to get a good result today, Newcastle aren't a great team. I agree the score'll be about 3-0.
Team: VDS Wes, Rio, Vida, Evra Ronnie, Hargreaves, Anderson, Nani Rooney, Tevez
Bench: O'Shea, Saha, Carrick, Scholes, Tomaz

Realistic more like. We aren't going to carve teams open and win 4-0 every game we play. I'd be delighted to wrong today, just have a feeling it could be tighter this evening than expected. Newcastle were rubbish last season and drew with us 2-2. It really depends on us taking our early chances and Given. We get an early goal and Given doesn't do his usual Superman impersonation against us and it could well be 4-0. We'll see in a few hours.

I'd like to see Park or Fletcher in the team for this one. I think Newcastle will have to make a battle of the game as they get more and more desperate for their first win. And away from home, in these sort of games, hardworking players like Flecther and Park gives us that extra bite.
Brown Ferdinand Vida Evra
Flecther Carrick Anderson
Ronaldo Rooney Tevez
I'll go for a 2:0 Rooney brace!
