From Sky Sports:
Mahamadou Diarra's agent has denied reports suggesting the player had travelled to Manchester United recently to discuss a possible transfer.
Sir Alex Ferguson is a known admirer of the £24 million-rated Lyon midfielder but Frederic Guerra claims a move to Old Trafford is unlikely.
Guerra insists that Diarra's preference is to remain at Lyon for another season at least, having committed his long-term future to the club only last year.
Ferguson watched the 24-year-old Mali international in UEFA Champions League action against Milan last month but United's pursuit could yet end in disappointment.
"The information about Mahamadou going on a trip to Manchester is not true," said Guerra.
"I have not had any contact with Manchester United about him and, in any case, he wants to stay in France with Lyon.
"He only signed a new four-year contract with the club last year and he wants to stay for another season at least."
Guerra's assertions may lead Ferguson to pursue alternatives in his bid to bolster an ailing midfield and The Red Devils have recently been linked with moves for the likes of Aldo Duscher, Nigel Reo-Coker and Kevin Nolan, but a number of clubs are willing to test Lyon's resolve to hang onto Diarra.
What do you reckon? Do we want this guy anyway?

i'm not sure if diarra is for us. i watched lyon play a month or so ago and he seemed to just get lost in the play. mind you that is the only time i've seen him play so he definately could've been having a bad day bcuz what i hear is hes a very good defensive midfielder so...thats just my opinion

I had read that there was some interest in Kevin Nolan as well. Thoughts?

Don't know much about either of these two, would prefer a bigger name to be honest although a repeat of what happened with veron may scare the board into cheaper options altogether.

I honestly haven't a clue. Not seen much of Diarra to judge him, though he is raved about by most. He strikes me as a holding player who sits in front of the back four like Makalele does for the rent boys, could be because of Lyon's system though. If we did go for him or Mascherano, who looks like a similar kind of player, we'd then need a specific creator in midfield like Riquelme, Rosicky etc... With all the big names, it'll probably come down to us getting a Nolan from Bolton if Big Sam gets the England job or Carrick or some relative unknown from somewhere.

He's said today, from Sky Sports: anything could happen over the summer.
"I have been here for four years," Diarra told Le Progres.
"I have had wonderful moments.
"Now we have to stay serious and prepare for next season.
"When I talk about next season, I also talk about me. I am under contract until 2009.
"But, you know, a footballer's career is full of uncertainties."

From Sky Sports:
Reports in Spain suggest Manchester United are trying to push through a quick deal for Mahamadou Diarra, in order to fend off interest from Real Madrid.
Lyon are insistent that Diarra will not be allowed to leave Stade Gerland, but supremo Jean-Michel Aulas was saying the same about Michael Essien this time last year - and he went on to join Chelsea.
Aulas admitted this week that an offer similar to that of Essien would probably mean he might have to let Diarra leave, although he was not expecting one - so United's reported move could very well come as a shock.
It is claimed that United are putting together a package that could be worth over €27 million (£18 million) - and Lyon could very well be prepared to do business at that price.
United will obviously have a number of irons in the fire, but Diarra is emerging as Sir Alex Ferguson's main transfer target - as he looks to sign the world class midfielder that The Red Devils have been crying out for, for much of this season.

well i don't rate him, but he is definately better than anything we have now. so let him come as long as he can hack it here. i'm sure he can, but definately not my top choice. who else could we get that is a proven player to a extent? riquelme?

From The Sun:~
Believe it if ya want...
Madrid interested or not, we are going to have to pay over £20,000,000 for him.
Hasnt he just signed a new contract?

If your referring to the price tag their club president keeps putting on him i think you'll find he's dealing in euros which takes a good 5-7 million off him. Still expensive of course, i will refer to a quote from David Gill, 'This summer we will sign One world class player, maybe 2.' (rough quote from my memory) Is Diarra really world class?.. and how much money would you expect to pay for a world class player, we're talking at least over 20 million. If he's suggesting we might get 2 world class players, does that push the budget up further?..
