I've heard United are looking to sign four players this summer - two of which already have signed. Fergie and Gill went down Highbury to sign Riquelme on the Champions League semi-final night, and Ruud has been used as bait for Cambiasso. I think these two have already signed.Speculation is staying quiet so that World Cup preparations aren't disturbed.
Replacement for Ruud in Torres which everyone is already talking about. However, buying a young player like Torres would hamper Rossi's progression in the side, unless Fergie wants Rooney to be our playmaker in three years time after Riquelme retires, which would make a lot of sense since Rooney has everything a world-class playmaker needs and more.
Other Speculation is that United have given Obi Mikel to Chelsea in exchange for Abromovich to convince his mate, Joorabchian, (Mafia connections, both money launderers ;D) to sell Mascherano to United for a favorable price, maybe 20 million - rather than the 35 million they were originally asking for. Cambiasso and Mascherano are the type of disciplined players we need in the side who will protect the defense - both of whom are very young. Cambiasso -25 and Mascherano - Low 20s.
Also, I think all the crap about Diarra, Makoun and other garbage is all a ploy by Fergie and the United board to keep Chelsea off our primary targets. Lets face it, if Essien was the star man in the Lyon side last year and now we all know he's a complete flop.. How good can Diarra trully be? Average player who shines in a crap league - The French League. Look how many players have been complete flops after leaving France, Drogba, Cisse, Essien - All supposedly world-class players. (We have the only exception in Heinze ;D)
If we do get Mascherano and Cambiasso, we might be reverting back to the 4-3-3 tactic - which is the only effective tactic in Europe.
Teams will hopefully look like:
Van Der Saar
Heinze Ferdinand Vidic Neville
Mascherano Cambiasso
Riquelme
Ronaldo Rooney
Torres/Saha
Bring on Chelsea!
