I think that Rooney and Ronaldo's best positions are just behind the striker. So I think we could go with a formation like this:
----------------------VDS------------------------
Neville------Rio----------Vidic--------Heinze
-----------Diarra?-------Reo-Coker?----------
------------Sholes or Riquelme---------------
------Ronaldo---------------Rooney----------
------------------Saha or Rossi----------------
The two defensive players would give the front four the chance to interchange and create havoc. With Ronaldo and Rooney in a free role behind the striker, and with Riquleme or Scholes putting through balls througg I think this team would be unstoppable.
What do you think?

Agree entirely with u m8. 4-3-3 is the only tactic suited to Champion's League football and the only tactic we can play against the big 3. Against the superpowers in Europe, having 2 centre midfielders means you get overrun in the middle because they all play 4-5-1 and having two DMs also has its advantages as u mentioned. Allows our very offensive minded players in Ronaldo, Rooney, especially Riquelme who never really tracks back but as we all know is lethal attacking wise, and the striker we decide to buy, get the goals.
However, don't agree with the personnel. Cambiasso and mascherano seem to be more suited to the Premiership and have played together before. Reo-Coker is more of a box-to-box player whereas we need disciplined DMs. Diarra in my opinion is totally overrated and shines in an awful league like essien did. He's just a ploy by SAF and United to keep Chelsea off our real targets. No to Gattuso as well.

I want Ruud van Nistelrooy to stay, but in all honesty if the AC Milan rumours are true he will depart Manchester United this summer, as a Red legend though it must be added. I could see this happening in the transfer, although it looks far from it at the moment.
PLAYERS OUT/MONEY IN: Ruud van Nistelrooy - £5m + Gattuso? Budget - £25m John Obi Mikel deal with Chelsea - £10m Mikael Silvestre - P/Ex or £3m TOTAL FUNDS - £43m
PLAYERS IN/MONEY OUT - Mahamadou Diarra - £18m Genaro Gattuso - P/Ex Franck Ribery - £8m Fernando Torres - £14m TOTAL OUT - £40m
I think this would leave United in a very strong position for the start of the season, although the loss of Ruud van Nistelrooy could prove massive. Diarra, Gattuso & Ribery are what United need in the midfield, and Torres is a young, talented striker who alongside Rooney, Saha & Rossi could form a potent strike force. I know these deals look far off at the moment, and I would be more than happy to see Ruud van Nistelrooy remain at Old Trafford but I believe these deals could easily be funded and are exactly what United need.

We will get Diarra without selling Ruud, but not Torres. That's why I put the star symbol by his name.
I can't bare this people who think we should play 4-3-3. We tried it last season and it clearly doesn't work at United and the fans aren't very happy with it either...FOUR FOUR TWO!

The most succesful teams now are playing 4-3-3 (Barcelona, Chelsea) and I think it is the way forward. The problem when playing 4-4-2 is that when you come across a team playing 4-3-3 they will outnumber you in midfield and so dominate the game.

Did you watch United playing 4-3-3?...we were abysmal to say the least. We were at our strongest playing 4-4-2. So what if Chelsea and Barcelona play 4-3-3. We don't have their personnel. And, using that formation would completely take Rooney out of the game. With Wazza being our best player do you think that's wise?

I don't think Torres and Ruud would work with both, as then..
Ruud, Torres, Rooney, Saha, Rossi, Solksjaer and possibly Smith.
Rossi wouldn't get a shout, and I'd really like to see him play more next season.

the reason 433 was crap this season for us was cos ruud aint suited to it and we had a crap midfield, put the right players in it wed be great at it, plus saha would be ideal in a 433

It all depends on who we let go and bring in. There isn’t any point reverting to certain tactics when they clearly don’t suit the player we have. Wasting talent isn’t the way forward.
