I keep hearing United fans complaining about our situation being so dire that we need to spend at least 40 million to cope with Chelsea. Last season was arguably another disappointing season in terms of the high expectation we now have at Old Trafford. Finishing behind the Chelski and winning the Worthless Cup whilst seeing the Scousers win the FA Cup and go further in Europe. However, in terms of development from the 2004-05 season, United made great progress. We won a trophy, even though we deserved to win the FA Cup the year earlier, and more importantly secured automatic Champion's League qualification. Last season we were forced into playing extra games which meant our players were far more tired when we started the Premiership campaign and this contributed to our bad start to the season, whereas Chelsea beat Wigan in the 92nd minute luckily and went on to win the first 10 games of the season. The gap was already far too big and we were always playing catch-up to a team who had a bigger squad and had not suffered the injuries we had during the season. Hopefully, the 06/07 campaign will start off with a bang and our players will be fit and ready raring to go.
Now injuries, we suffered many and to crucial members of our first team.
Heize - All season, the backbone of our defense and arguably the best left back in England, if not Europe.
Scholes - From December on-wards, England's most technically gifted player of the last decade.
Saha - I believe for the first half of the season - Shown what a great asset he is in the latter half of the season.
Solskjaer - Past two seasons - Super Sub, We have seriously been lacking someone to bring on in the second half when things aren't going well for us. When we had success in the 90s we always had a plan B to bring on in the second half to win us games, like Ole and Teddy.
Brown - Whenever he established himself as an international defender and worthy of a first team slot, got injured for a month or so. Extremely unfortunate.
Gary Neville - Injured for a couple of months in January I think. Our Captain who leads by example.
Giggs - Broke his cheekbone and was sidelined for a couple of months.
Smith - Broke his leg, our for half the season, was finally getting in grasps with the demands of a CM in the Premiership.
Chelsea and Liverpool, however, managed to have Terry, Lampard, Gerrard, Carragher (their most important players) and other key members of their first team fully fit for the entire season. If Chelsea had Terry or Lampard injured, they would never have even come close to finishing as high as they did.
Next season, Heinze, Scholes, Ole, Smith, Saha ( to an extent, first season to have him from the start without being injured) will all be virtually like new signings. I accept we need to strengthen our CM position and maybe forward if RVN leaves, but the situation isn't as bad as some United fans portray. Remember, people don't become worth 1 billion pounds unless they are extremely clever, and I'm sure the Glazer's know that they will have to invest if United are to progress and challenge Chelsea seriously. At least one of our departments seems to be sorted, since we have one of the best back fours in Europe now and I'm not exaggerating.
Heinze, Ferdinand, Vidic, Neville
Is much better than
Roberto Carlos?, Terry, Carvalho, Ferreira
Yes Chelsea continue to buy, the whores Shevchenko and Ballack, who are great players but people don't seem to notice that massive problems will arise in the dressing room with such massive egos present. Shevchenko was Milan's captain and was used to being the big dog, and Ballack was the only big-time player in Bayern, and being his arrogant self, will demand respect from the likes of Terry and Lampard who will just laugh in his face.
And last, but not least, we still have three of the best young players in the world in Ronaldo, Rossi and Rooney (another being Messi), the future is bright.
