although im sure obi mikel is going to be worth more than the 12m compensation package utd will recieve from the chavs, i cant help but feel that is a great piece of business, think about it we 'signed' a player that doesnt want to play for us who we therefore do not want so instead of wasting our 5 million he can sit on the bench at chelsea do what all these african players want to do, see his wage package and jump for joy while we will add the 12 million which will be paid over the next year(as if chelsea need to pay that in stages!!!!!) we will but homegrown talent not some foreign player who doesnt give a s*** about who or what hes playing for as long as the moneys good! i say good ridance!

and with united 'supposedly' demanding 20 million for ruud(finally united have realised his true price! hes not andy johnesen!!!!) if we were to recieve 20 mil for ruud although i still want him at utd next season it will still be a great piece of business..
ruud=20 mil obi mikel=12mil glazers=20mil(although if they saw we got this money from the above theyd probaly only give us 10mil greddy b******* sell of mediocre player=4 mil-6mil bellion=2mil thats in an around 60 million.................kerching!

total=48 mil leaving us with 12 mil spare for emergencies in january and if ruud doesnt leave we wont need striker making it 33 mil and 7 mil spare

So in reality he is being sold for 16 million, what a joke Chelsea are.
taken from the official site.
Reds Agree £12m Mikel Fee With Chelsea
Chelsea Football Club, Manchester United Football Club, FC Lyn Oslo and John Obi Mikel have reached a settlement to resolve the future of the player.
Mikel's registration will be transferred from Lyn to Chelsea FC as soon as possible. Manchester United have also agreed to terminate their option agreement with Mikel.
Under the terms of this agreement Chelsea will pay Manchester United £12million, half payable now and half in 12 months, and Lyn £4million, half payable now, and half payable in 12 months time.
As a result of this settlement all claims in this matter, which Chelsea were never an official party to, are now withdrawn. The payments do not in any way imply the acceptance of any such claims and have been made solely so that Mikel can resume his career.
Manchester United will support Chelsea in any work permit application if necessary.
All parties have agreed that there will be no further comment on the settlement or any of the allegations or claims.

hes a waste of time, 'unproven muppet goes to chelsea for £16mil' .. or as roman would say, bargain.
What really makes me laugh though is when the bbc and chelsea's website ask fans their opinion on signin shevchenko... one guy said: 30mil quid for a guy of his age, thats a lot of money, big risk.' .... since when have chelsea fans been arsed about the money they spend... seriously do they still think they have a transfer budget? muppets...

To think he becomes our 4th biggest ever sale I think.
Becks 25 million Veron 16 million Stam 16 million Mikel 12 million for United and he never played a game.

lol our 4th biggest sale. what a joke chelsea are, they are willing to shell out 16 million to get an 18 year old who to my knoweledge has never been tested in any league close to the class of the premiership and probably wont become a constant first team starter for a good few season if ever.
In a couple of years i hope obi mikel realises what a big mistake he made by going to chelsea and not man utd.
I think the deal we managed to get for this kid was very good for us. 12 million extra to hopefully spend on the transfer market. Even though a lot of people seem to think he will be worth more than that when he is older ( i cant comment i have never seen him play) i am glad to see him gone as after a lot of the stuff i have heard about this whole matter makes me think we certainly dont want player like obi mikel at utd.

12 mil for a player who doesn't want to be with us is a good deal in my book; if he underperformed with us he probably wouldn't be worth as much....

It's not funny that Chelsea are shelling out £16m on a player, yeah they have unlimited funds but this guy was one of the answers to our midfield problems. He'll be worth more than £16m and in my eyes Chelsea are getting a bargain. The guy's a powerhouse, box-to-box and chips in with his fair share of goals. And, to think we were getting a bargain. We were paying under £5m for him.
Unfortunately, his agent had a hidden agenda and Chelsea got the Russian mafiosos in to as they say give him an 'offer you can't refuse'. Now, a player who could of been plying his trade at Old Trafford week-in/week-out will be sitting in the dug-out at Stamford Bridge getting 20 minutes if lucky.
Chelsea need to be dealt with by the regualting bodies: FIFA & the Premier League. It's an utter joke that they can get away with this sort of behaviour. If Manchester United were not in the position regarding personnel and finances they would of been in a position to refuse the £12m and take Chelsea to FIFA in a proper manner in which Chelsea could of been punished accordingly. Now, it seems though we will take our £12m and add it to our budget and Chelsea will take another of our scouted players and add it to their forever lengthening substitutes bench.
The £12m though will come in handy and push our transfer budget pre-sales of our own players to around £35-40m which is sufficient enough to sign atleast 3 top quality players which will enable us to launch an assault on European and domestic success next season.
P.S. I look forward to giving John Obi Mikel some grief when he is sitting in the dugout at Old Trafford, unfortunately though in my heart I'll know that he should be on the Old Trafford pitch in a red shirt.
