Great News!!!! #rock# He's a very good player already and moving to United will only make him better. Altough he don't have any Champ League experience but I think he's ready to make that step up. Also for 7 million, I think it is a very good business.

If thats true, it's great news. exactly the sort of player we need, tried and tested in the premiership and looking to make his name on the big stage, lets get it done before the world cup as his price may go through the roof!

If we were to sign him I'd be extremely happy. Young, talented, English and exactly what our midfield needs, comes at a cheap price too. The Indy also says Fergie will sign him and Diarra, I think that's not going to happen. Either, or for me and I'd choose Carrick because he is as talented if not more and comes at a cheaper price. We also know he can play in the Premiership and not be intimidated by big games. If we were to capture the signatures of Carrick, Ribery & Riquelme, they'd cost about £30m all in all (£7m, £15m, & £8m). Them three players would revitalise our midfield and team as a whole and certaintly enable us to challenge for big trophies.

i would be happy to see Cariick in a utd shirt. i also agree that if we acctually got riquelme, carrick and ribery we would have a far better midfield to help challenge for the prem. lets just hope this happens.

You have to ask yourself; if both were fully fit and you could only have one, who would you choose? Michael Carrick or Scott Parker?
I like Carrick but I'd take Parker. Michael Carrick is a very good creative definsive minded midfielder, which we need, but doesn't have the tenacity Parker possesses. I remember watching Newcastle playing Arsenal and Lehmann 'accidentaly' knocked him out. He recovered and played like a man possessed until he eventually passed out and had to be taken off. You couldn't help but admire him that day. Outstanding performance. "If only The Toon had more players like him" me dad said, proud Newcastle fan.

It was playiing with world class players which helped him develop, and the same could happen with Carrick.

CandianRedDevil's got it spot on. Lampard wasn't as good as him at his age and look at him now, same goes for J.Cole. Carrick would blossom at a big club like United playing in Europe and in a side who could win the Premier League. I would take him over Diarra, although Diarra is quality. Carrick is better and cheaper, and isn't as much as a risk!

Im excited by this news, but apparently we were signing Gudjohnsen this week and well....I don't see him anywhere lol. Fingers crossed this happens, if we got the pair of them I would be giddy with excitement.

true both carrick and gudjohnsen are good players but don't mean to sound neg but should we not be looking to sign the best midfielders and strikers in the world...
midfielders guttusso riquelme diara kaka pirlo
strikers torres owen roanldo
and so on are these two players compared to chelsea's two signings going to close the gap ie
Ballack or Carrick Shev or Gudjohnsen will this close the gap

I think that Carrick would be a good signing and more likely to happen than Diarra. I too agree with canadianreddevil because what's important is to find players with talent but not necessarily big names that way they can develop with the more experienced players which I think would be the case with Carrick. If Riquelme and Ribery are signed as well then we'll be in business!

One thing that hasn't been talked about, do you think Spurs would really sell Carrick for only 7 mill? I think they would ask for at least 10 mill for him, he's a vital part of their mid-field even if they are being linked with Zakora.

I doubt Pirlo & Kaka will leave AC Milan, but I did post a thread on Kaka and how we could get him. I'd rather Carrick over Diarra, although they are both about the same level talentwise, Carrick is English, proven at Premiership level and cheaper. Riquelmé would be a good signing and Fergie is after him, he is going to watch him in the World Cup as his price can't go up because he has a release clause of £8m.
