I agree with Carrick comming in, he's a good player, proven at premiership level and working under the lord and master sir alex would just push him over the top.
Bear in mind cos of the Obi Mikel money for that nigerian mercenary it's only really costing us 8million even if he is 20...
Now just to get scott parker to play along side him....

Don't think he's average at all, he's a player with an eye for a pass, with Scholes to help, I reckon it can only improve.
Oh n if we don't get Diarra, I reckon Dave Jones can do the job, he really is a box to box midifelder, bit like Reo-Coker, and certainly willge tthe job done, besides hte guy has passion, he wants to win things with this club!

Please no, he is average at best, i can't understand what i am reading on here, chelsea get ballack shevchenco and the rest and we are going for carrick, no pace never scores and not even considered good enough to do the holding role for england, his true value is what west ham sold him for, he is the least talented of that group of players that west ham produced, manchester united needs world class midfielders not premiership class, and for gods sake i hope the bloke who mentioned scott parker was pissed.whats all this importance on prem experience, chelseas buys have done alright as have quality players like alonso, world class players can play in any league, as cantona, scmichael, kanchelskis etc proved. I really hope fergie does one soon as he really is starting to piss me off, he is going for a safe option because he is scared of getting it wrong again.

Carrick is what United need despite what you say. Do Manchester United have funds to spend £30m on one player and his wages?...
If the Carrick move materialises he will prove to you and other sceptical fans, who always seem to moan and whinge when Fergie does something, that he is United class and will do well for us.
Roy Keane wasn't a world-class buy when United signed him and look what he turned out to achieve. Michael Carrick isn't world class at the moment, and I'm not likening him to Keano before you start, but he can become world class and will shine under the guidance of Fergie and playing alongside players like Giggs, Scholes, C.Ronaldo, Rooney & Van Nistelrooy (hopefully) week in-week out.
He is still only 24 years old and at £10-15m represents value for money, especially considering how talented he is. If he played on the continent he would be worth £25-30m, English clubs never seem to get the top prices for their players.
I bet if Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool were to sign him, people like TOM and others would be saying: ''Why didn't Fergie sign him?, he's lost it and needs to go!'' Shit like that pisses me off, and as soon as Arsenal signed Rosicky, who ISN'T United class, people started saying the same things.
Carrick will prove his worth if the move materialises, I guarantee that.
I'm done!

Well a lot of the papers are saying a bid around £12-£14 mill should do the trick but who knows...

Agree with Tom,Carrick might be alright for Spurs but we are not Spurs we should set our sights higher. If we are talking about money lets start offloading the deadwood now surprised we havent already get some cash in.The arse can buy good players for less than 10 mill so should we..

I think a few of you are maybe forgetting he's only 24(nearly 25), was Ballack rated as one of the best in the world at his age? No, was Ballack proven in the premiership like Carrick is? No...My point being Ballack is now 29 and only earnt his status as a top player in the last few years, Carrick is 24 and can be every bit as good in the future as well as having the advantage of huge premiership experience behind him.
Chelsea signed 2 29 year olds who will soon be passed their best because they can afford it, whereas we are trying to sign a player already proven in the premiership who can improve to be a great player.
Chelsea will have to continuously sign new players every season due to their ageing squad, meaning more money, more unsettlement and more failures in the permiership.
So don't use this Chelsea got Ballack so lets pay loads of money for an untested premiersip player from abroad who is most likely overrated and could fail like all the others.

whoa whoa, Rosick would defenitely have been utd class - the guy is amazing.
Carrick, he'll do the job. the reason he jhasn't been picked for Negland DM role, despite all the commentators suggesting that he should be playing there, is simply because we need that player to play a defensive role, so as to allow both Gerrard and Lampard to get forward, whereas with us, we require Carrick because we don't have to attacking mids, so we need a defensive mid who can start thingss from that position, and that, Carrick can most certainly do. He does have two great feet, and as I said before, a great eye for a pass.

This is what two of the papers are saying:
THE SUN
Manchester United are on the brink of completing the £11 million signing of Michael Carrick
DAILY MAIL
Michael Carrick is on the verge of joining Manchester United for £12 million
That is a very fair price for a very good player. I'm excited to seeing him in the red of United next season, but I hope this is not the end to the summer signings. £25m from the Glazers and £16m from Chelski, leaves us with about £30m left to spend, I'd like to see Ribery and Diarra or Deco follow him into Old Trafford.

i would absolutelly love it..if we can manage to sign carrick...he will be a real top quality player... i believe he is better than diarra (or at least more suited to us) as he has an amazing range of passing and can help spread the play (we have been missing a player that can do this effortlessly since becks left) and is disciplined defensivly... he could easily play in a 4-4-2 wiv scholes or in a 4-2-3-1 with diarra or another defensive midfielder with the 4 in front having free roles (like brazil)..... you are forgetting spurs have had their best seasons for a decade and almost qualified for the champions league and carrick was head and shoulders their best player... he elevated their midfield to another class... every spurs fan rates him to the high heavens.... plus one of my best mates is a massive spuds fan...so us gettin carrick is good chance to rub it in

From the Daily Mail:
United to splash £12m on Carrick
Michael Carrick is on the verge of joining Manchester United after they offered Tottenham £12million England midfielder.
Carrick, who earns £18,000-a-week at White Hart Lane, will discuss United's offer to more than treble his salary with his representatives after England's opening game of the World Cup with Paraguay today.
The move is the talk of the England camp and United are set to offer him £65,000-a-week to move to Old Trafford.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson lodged the offer this week with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who is currently in Miami on business, and they expect to make an announcement after the World Cup.
Tottenham boss Martin Jol does not want to sell the midfielder, but it is understood that Carrick is flattered by United's interest and is keen to talk to the Old Trafford club.
Ferguson has retained an interest in the former West Ham star since his days at Upton Park and believes he can be the future of United's midfield.
United limped to second place in the Premiership last season by playing Ryan Giggs and John O'Shea in the centre of midfield, but it was only a short-term measure.
Carrick was signed by Spurs for just £3.5m and he formed an effective partnership with England team-mate Jermaine Jenas at White Hart Lane as Jol's team qualified for the UEFA Cup.
But it is understood that the lure of playing in the Champions League next season will play a massive part in his decision. He also believes that his England prospects will be enhanced by moving to Old Trafford and playing for one of the top clubs in the country.
The 24-year-old is on stand-by to play in today's World Cup opener against Paraguay in Frankfurt if midfielder Steven Gerrard fails to recover from the back injury which again disrupted the Liverpool skipper's training plans yesterday.
Although Carrick has told friends that he has not been distracted by United's interest, he will discuss the move with his agent after tomorrow's match. Spurs were expected to offer him a new contract this summer, but they cannot match United's money.
Meanwhile, Carrick's Tottenham team-mate Jermain Defoe is targeting the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after his England stand-by duties came to an end.
The 23-year-old Spurs striker, who flew home from Germany yesterday, was invited to stay with Sven Goran Eriksson's squad after spending a month covering for Wayne Rooney as the Manchester United striker recovered from his broken metatarsal.
Rooney has been declared fit for the World Cup after a swift recovery, but Defoe has decided to return home.
"It is still my dream to play in a World Cup and I will work hard over the next four years to make that dream a reality," said Defoe.
The England coach wanted Defoe to stay with the squad to sample the World Cup atmosphere, but the striker would have had to watch from the stands.
Despite deciding to return home, Defoe insists he is proud of representing his country.
"I am gutted I will not be taking part in this World Cup," he said. "Pulling on the shirt for your country is the biggest honour in football. Playing for your country in the World Cup is the pinnacle of a footballer's career."
