News from sky: Ronaldo's United aim By Chris Stanton - Created on 10 Jun 2006Cristiano Ronaldo has underlined his desire to remain at Manchester United. Valencia have been reported to be eyeing a move for the flamboyant Portuguese international in recent months but Ronaldo sees his future at Old Trafford. The former Sporting Lisbon star admits the interest in him is flattering but he is focused solely on helping to equip United to make a renewed tilt at honours next season. "It's very important to me to be a Manchester United player," Ronaldo told the Sun. "It [the speculation] is a sign that people appreciate my work and like me. "I believe I'm going to improve even more, win titles and help my club achieve its aims." While Ronaldo has been used in a wing role in his Old Trafford career to date, the 21-year-old admits he would relish being pushed even further forward. "I play regularly on the left wing and the right wing but the position I prefer is a free role up front, like a second striker," he added. "At Manchester I haven't had the chance to play in this position yet because there are a lot of players who do a great job there." I just read that too. Its excellent news and it's great he has publicly stated his desire to be at Manchester United, he is part of the future of this club and we need our best players to stay. I'd also like to see Fergie play him in an advanced role with Rooney but it's not going to happen because hopefully, Ruud will stay.

I think this is further confirmation that while CR is staying - Ruud is definitely off. Mind you, the thought of him up front is exciting - perhaps not now but definitely in a couple of years when he gets a bit stronger

I don't think he has quite the finishing that we require for a striker. People talk about his strength and lack of, but everytime i see him, he appears reasonably well built, a lot moe than he was when he first arrived. I think fo rhim, the wings are the best plac to play him, exploiting his pace, although we know he does ahve compusre, I dont feel his finishing is always upto the standard that we require for a potential striker. Besides we need midifelders, strikers are in abundance at utd!

I think we have to start thinking differently. Ruud played as a front man - lay back to his midfield; let the midfield go forward and then be in the 6 yard box for the finish. I think you can be fairly certain that's not going to happen much at OT anyway. Possibly away but even then it's doubtful.
What we're looking at with the players we have is almost a 6 man midfield with any one of them taking turns going forward. That's why they like Saha and not Ruud. You have Roo, Saha, Ronaldo all breaking from 35yards. Throw in Giggs and Scholes with a "Carrick-type" distributor and that seems to be the plan.
So while I agree that CR can never be a Ruud, he can be more like a Rooney figure - I just wish he was a) a better shot and b) that he was strong enough to battle for the 50/50 balls without falling over. Perhaps it's not physical strength - he's just a bit of a wimp.

Now that is a fair assessment! I agree, but I dont think packing a 6 man midifeld is that great an idea, its just too crowded, I always assumed the reaso we got Diarra was to keep posession of the ball and get the ball, with 6 men in midifeld the primary aim would be to get the ball and keep posession - so u see there is a conflict of interests, why keep 6 men there, when 2 can do te job.
If you were to play all the players like you said, then I reckon that 433 is the best option. Carrick picking out passes with Diarra doing the dirty work, along with Giggs to the left of them, then up front introduce Roo, Ron, n Saha.
I do feel tho that D Jones has to get a run out, and would defneitely like to see him as a sub atleast, with Rossi.

What I meant was just that; playing 6 midfield TYPE players who are attack minded and can interchange. I mean Roo is seldom seen in the penalty area except when coming forward with the ball whereas the Ruud type is in there waiting. I know it was only Newcastle, but the performance that day was very similar to the 66/70 Brazil style of total football. If we'd scored double figures, we still missed twice as many!!!!
I think we will finish up with 4-1-3-2 - it all depends on the personnel

Please forget Diarra its not happening,
1) Overpriced, overpriced, overpriced completely over valued
2) wouldnt play for the love of UTD, talked about madrid etc
3) Madrid are having a big clear out, want to start fresh, they will get rid of midfielders and will want diarra, between us and them, hed go for them.
4) We dont really want him, just a way of not letting Chelski know who exactly we want
Ronaldo always wanted to stay, all he did was say about any thoughts of any future ambition/respect for another club and suddenly everyone thinks hes leaving, o how silly they are, well be here for a long time, you watch, he wants to be a number 7 legend, like Best, Cantona and Beckham and he will be
