Manchester United and Arsenal may have moved a step closer to acquiring the coveted France international midfielder Franck Ribéry yesterday after his club Marseille declared that he would not be sold to Lyon. The Marseille president Pape Diouf has been involved in an acrimonious public exchange with his counterpart at the French champions Lyon, Jean-Michel Aulas, for weeks. Aulas had declared on his club's official website that the 23-year-old Ribéry "wants to come to Lyon", but Diouf described that as a "rumour" and one of "many underhand manoeuvres" emanating from Lyon. "It should be known that should Lyon's manoeuvres complicate the relationship between Franck and our supporters to the extent that he leaves, he would go anywhere but Lyon," Diouf was quoted as saying. football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,1796171,00.html It's looking good at the moment, I'm looking forward to watching him tonight versus Switzerland. TREZEGUET has been dropped from the France starting line-up to accomodate for him so they must think of him highly. Let's just hope Wenger stands by his statement and doesn't want to sign anyone else.

I think he is a class act, maybe the next pires to come from france, he has the ability and the commitment to make it and i think we should push the boat out to get him cos we will regret it if we dont

The thing is we wouldn't have to push the boat out, £15m maximum for him and that's a bargain.

Its a lot for a young kid who hasnt achieved that much, and i dont think he is worth that yet but in a couple of seasons i think he will be worth much more and thats why I'm sayin push the boat out and spend £15m on him

that sums it up - its waht we did with ronaldo - 12 mil was lot for him initally, but hte price was soon justified, and I''m sure his value will have almost double, as will Ribery's if we sing him for £12mil too.
He is too much ofa talent to missout on, and his temper will be rightly chanelled by Fergie on the pitch, he did it with Keane and Smith, so Ribery should be easy.

Guess we will have to wait until after the world cup for any concrete moves as far as this goes. At least the article gives us something to smile about.

has he expressed any interest in signing with United or is he just stuck in the middle of the French feud?

I've not seen anything, he was meant to say something but bottled it after Cisse broke his leg, I think anyways.

AFTER THE SWISS GAME LET LYON HAVE HIM, PLEASE TELL ME WHERE ARE YOU LOT WATCHING THESE PLAYERS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE THEY ARE CRAP, STOP TAKING NOTICE OF THE PAPERS, WILL YOU MAKE A JUDGEMENT ON WHAT YOU HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN AND NOT ON SOMEONES REPUTATION OR IF THE PAPERS SAY HE IS GOOD, THE BEST WINGER I HAVE SEEN AT OT THIS SEASON WAS SIMAO, SKILLFUL FAST AND A TEAM PLAYER

TOM, How can you judge a player in the one game you've seen him? I've watched him over the season, especially in Europe and some of his games in the French League.
Ribery is a top quality youngster, one of the best, if you're going to judge him after one game in a poor all round side then mate never be a scout or a coach for that matter.
Ribery has skill, pace, strength and a great end product ie crossing, corners, etc. If you had actually watched him instead of contradicting yourself then you'd see.

I watched him against Bolton over the 2 legs and although he was alright i dont think in my opinion he is that good, i have to disa gree about his pace, i havent seen him run away from anyone yet, when you are talking about wingers i use Giggsy as a giude and he is no where near him at that age. Personally i like the young kid who played for seville on the right, he was not only fast but skillful and no i am not judging just on the middlesborough game as i watch the spanish football every week, where do you see the french games? Also tell me where am i contradicting myself,

You said people should make judgements on things they have seen yet you criticise someone who you have obviously not followed. Channel 4 late nights used to show full French league games and whenever Marseille was shown I'd watch, as well as Channel 5 giving some highlights and the UEFA games which are usually broadcast on one of the ITV channels and channel 5.

Fair enough, I admit i am not a follower of french football but the few games i have seen him in he hasnt impressed me, Navas looks quality and is only 18, he might be a bit lightweight but that is all i can see wrong with him, age will bring the extra strength. I am only critical of players i dont think are good enough for us, and i dont get excited about every new name the press throw up.

I for one haven't got excited about any names threw up in the papers, only Riquelmé, Carrick, Ribery and Diarra (until his wage demands)....and tbh I've never ever heard of Navas.

to the tit who reckons simao is the best winger in the world- if ur gonna judge players on one performance in the world cup then simao was awful against angola. id be surprised if he completed one pass.
