Spanish midfielder Xavi Hernandez is the latest international star to be scouted by ManUtd at the 2006 World Cup.
A product of the Barcelona youth system, Hernandez was one of Spain's star performers in their impressive 4-0 victory over the Ukraine in their opening match in Germany.
Player Name - Xavi Hernandez Position - Central midfielder Match scouted - Spain 4-0 Ukraine. Key Moment - While everyone was dazzled by Fernando Torres I believe many missed the excellent job that Xavi did for Spain in this match. He was consistent with his passing and his tackling throughout . Strengths - Has the ability to break down threatening moves from the opposition, before triggering off counter-attacks. He is an excellent passer of the ball and is not afraid to make some crunching tackles. Weaknesses - He's just come back from a long-term injury so I'm unsure of his overall fitness. Suitability - He reminds of Roy Keane. He also an excellent crosser of the ball and his quality delivery from a corner led to Alonso's opener. At 26, he's a good age and I think he could be just the player United are looking for. Your Estimated Value - Given the amount of midfielders Barcelona have at their disposal such as Deco, Iniesta and van Bommel, they may feel they can afford to let one go. Their interest in Frank Lampard may also mean Xavi would become available, but I still believe United would have to pay around £20million for him.
