Heres a quote from earlier in the year from Some bloke at OT called anson 'We manage Manchester United as an integrated business and then we decide where we're going to spend the money at the beginning of each season when we do our budget.
'It's been well documented that the budget for transfers has already been allocated for this year and that remains unchanged.
'That is a big pot of money anyway and Sir Alex Ferguson is confident he can get the players he wants in the summer.
'We've allocated significant funds and everyone on the playing side is convinced we can get the players we want.
'Obviously it depends on the individual players and you spend what you have to get the right world-class players.
'We've all said that getting the right world-class midfield players is a key part of our strategy.
'If we feel we need to get a world class player, as we did with Wayne Rooney last year, then we'll make sure we get him and will strike the best deal.
'What we have to do is go out and get the best value deal and that's something chief executive David Gill is very good at.
'In the past I'm not sure we always achieved that. But David is a shrewd negotiator.'
Notice the bit about it being a key part of the strategy to get WORLD CLASS MIDFIELD PLAYERS again i ask where does carrick and some of the others i see mentioned come into this as they are far from world class. If we end up with the average carrick i have got to say some one isnt telling the truth or fergie has completly lost his judgement, even malcom glazier should know carrick isnt world class The part about if we feel the need to buy a world class player made me laugh , beleive me we do need one and truthfully more than one. Also the comment david is a shrewd negotiater! carrick and 14 mill dosent eqate to being shrewd negotiators in my book, getting bummed is more like it! I just hope we do get world class midfield players

in all honesty mate...stop while you are still keeping your head above water.... whilst everyone is entilted to their opinion...you have clearly never watched carrick in your life....i mean every pundit in the country waxes lyrical about him...martin jol says he wants to build a team around him.. every spurs fan would be devastated to see him leaving even for 15 million.... two seasons ago spurs as usual were going knowhere fast....carrick forced his way into the team and largelly the same group of players nearly finished 4th this season...with carrick being their outstanding midfield player...

Carrick is worth £14m and at United would become World-Class, was Keane world class when he joined United?..

Carrick is worth £14m and at United would become World-Class, was Keane world class when he joined United?.. Thanks for bringing that up because I think what's important in determining the kind of player we want at United is one who obviously has talent but not necessarily a "world class". If a player has talent then that talent will develop as he adjusts to the Fergie's tactics as well as his interaction with the team. I think he will be a good signing as he has played in the Prem and done well, as Adz said he's been an integral part of Spurs resurgence and that has to count for something.

Good point, Veron was "world class" when he joined us. Scholes and Keane weren't!

Don' get me wrong i think Carrick is a good player, i think would be a good signing and can become world class-
But to look at it from another point of view he isn't yet world class and i think the origional point made was we were supposed to sign world class players.

Define World Class Carrick was in the top 5 of nearly every midfield statistic table last year for shooting, tackling, passing etc alongside or even bettering statistics of Mackalelle, Lampard, Sissoko who are all World Class Don' get me wrong i think Carrick is a good player, i think would be a good signing and can become world class- But to look at it from another point of view he isn't yet world class and i think the origional point made was we were supposed to sign world class players.

I wouldn't say Carrick is world class either, he hasn't prove himself on a world stage imo that's what world class means. But he is proven in the premiership, and one of the best midfielders last year, so STOP WHINING!

True he has performed well in the premiership and the stats prove it, he just needs the opporunity.. something i'm disappointed in Sven for, he would rather play 2 people out of position (although not so much with hargreaves) rather than give Carrick a chance in the side. If Carrick was only played in a 5 man midfield for England he would be fantastic sprayin balls everywhere.

We wont just sign Carrick, if thats true it sounds like we have a bit of spendage and well get 2 midfielders, i hate it when people define names as ability and/or potential, Carrick is young, proven at a worse club than United (not that Tottenham are bad but you know what i mean) and i support his signing fully, look what happens to clubs who only sign people for their names, Real Madrid, half their players just arent what they used to be, Carrick will fit in well and personally im happy we are signing ENGLISH players, i dont want to end up supporting foreigners, i think we will get Carrick, another midfielder, Torres and maybe a couple of cheapies for the depth. Fergie and gang understand me need to spend to excel and spending some now on the players we want, who are young and full of talent, will last for seasons to come, Carrick, Ronaldo, Rooney, Torres, and theyre an investment, theyll be looking to make the money back and then some.
I agree with rooneylishious, Carrick should be given a chance in the England squad and i think we missed the best oppurtunities, Sweden would have been a perfect game to start him and see if he can carry on into the last 16 but now its a bit late to be testing players etc, though in fairness i think Owen Hargreaves did well in the last game and the booing etc is unfair, not gunna make him play better is it?

If you want to sign WORLD CLASS like GATTUSO then people are going to moan that he is not in the age bracket and is just a short-term solution to a long-term problem.
IF Fergie signs someone who is on their way to becoming WORLD CLASS like CARRICK we will get people moaning that he is not yet World Class and therefore will not improve us.
I'd rather the latter and think signing Carrick would be a great coup, although I think we do need one more hard, tackling midfielder to play alongside him too...DIARRA would be my first choice.

These people who keep saying that Carrick doesnt get a sniff in the England camp, do you think it is because of the fact that hargreaves is a better player; or, that Sven and Hargreaves are having an affair and Sven feels compelled to play the Candian shit house ? ?
Answers on a post card please
