Tottenham have agreed a fee with Bayer Leverkusen for striker Dimitar Berbatov.
Spurs signed a lucrative shirt deal with Mansion earlier in the week and they have used a portion of the funds to agree a £10.9 million deal for the Bulgarian international.
The deal would appear to be well down the line as personal terms have been agreed and all that stands between Berbatov and a move to White Hart Lane is the successful application for a work permit.
Spurs have beaten off stiff competition for a striker named Bulgarian Player of the Year in 2002, 2004 and 2005.
Sporting director Damien Comolli said: "There were a number of clubs interested in signing Dimitar, clubs from France, Spain and The Premiership.
"We are delighted he has chosen to join us. He is a tall, skilful, highly-talented striker who not only has a proven track record of being able to finish, but also of creating scoring opportunities for team-mates."
Berbatov is excited by the prospect of moving to Tottenham.
"Tottenham is a club that is building something special," he told the club's website "The squad has some terrific young players, an excellent manager and coaching staff and I am looking forward to playing my part."
The impending arrival of Berbatov casts doubt over the future of Egyptian star Mido, who is coming towards the end of his loan stay at Spurs.
He has made a decent impression, but Spurs have failed to agree a fee with Roma and the outlay on Berbatov would suggest a deal for the Egyptian is now unlikely.

I personally can’t believe he’s joined Spurs of all teams.

I'm looking forward to seeing this guy in the Premiership. He is a top quality talent and I thought that if Shev left AC, or Ruud left us he'd be going to one of them teams, so for Spurs to sign him is a surprise. The guys young and can score loads of goals, I'd like to see him be a success in the Premiership, of course not against United though.
