Crystal Palace have accepted an £8.5 million bid from Wigan Athletic for England striker Andy Johnson.
The 25-year-old is wanted by a host of clubs including Everton and Bolton - who have also lodged bids.
However, Wigan's is the highest offer and that is the only one to have been accepted by Eagles chairman Simon Jordan so far.
"Wigan are in the box seat," Jordan confirmed.
"Everton and Bolton are very keen to have the player's services, but they need to get a move on.
"Wigan have offered £8.5 million, which is money I consider reasonable and which is on the terms I want.
"It is predominantly those three clubs who are interested in Andrew, although I believe there is also interest from Portsmouth."
Johnson returns on Monday from England's World Cup training camp and it is expected he will meet with Wigan, while both Everton and Bolton wait in the wings - unless they up their offers in the next few days. --------------------------------------
Great signing for Wigan that.

I'm surprised Wigan got the money for it. I guess Mr JJB forked out a little extra? Definately would be a great signing for Wigan though, hope they get him. I like them as a club, and I like Andy Johnson.

Top signing for Wigan, but they've had there pants pulled down over the price. £8m for a guy who scored half of his goals from the penalty spot in the Premier League?!...it's a bit much. But, on the other hand if he scores 15 goals this season and it's the difference between mid table and relegation for them it's a small price to pay!

Strange signing; they have Roberts (target man) and Camara who plays much like Johnson, but is more skilful. He scored a lot of goals, many from the penalty spot, but in one season in the premiership. Kevin Philips did the same thing and could never do it again; i don't see what Johnson has other than pace that suggests he'll be a consistent scorer- certainly not for the amount they're spending on him. But then perhaps its one of those 'we've made it now as a premiership club so we've got to make a point of looking as though we are strengthening' signings that clubs do?

Camara is probably off...he's one of those players who never seems to settle at a club..

Could be off to Bolton now? They've had a bid accepted; change of tact from Mike Bassett from him buying foreign oldies.

Simon Jordan is gonna be rubbing his hands together like fuckin' Scrooge. Almost £9m for a player who scored most of his goals from the penalty spot...! As I said before though if he is the difference between Europe or Relegation then who are we to argue...I certaintly wouldn't like to argue with Big Sam or Paul Jewell!

This Jordon guys a complete divvy, he says he wants what’s best for AJ, yet accepts WIGANS offer then BOLTON comes in with .5 more and he accepts that offer. More like he wants what’s best for him, orange faced fuck.
I’d rather see him at BOLTON as I like big Sam and what he’s done for the club and with the addition of AJ; I wouldn’t put it past them to get in to Europe next season.

Quote of the Century from Simon Jordan (I found this in the Sun): ''I THINK ANDY JOHNSON IS WORTH £20M BUT I'M IN A MINORITY OF ONE!''
That my friend, you are!

Well that’s just idiocy. 8.5 is too much for him let alone £20 million. I’d say he’s worth 5 – 6 million tops. But that’s due to him being English, young, quick and he can finish when in the right position. Anymore and you’ve been robbed. But yeah, I hope Bolton seal the deal.
