From BBC: Live football matches will no longer be broadcast on the BBC big screens in Liverpool and London after trouble flared during England's first match. About 50,000 people gathered at nine of the screens around the UK to watch England play Paraguay on Saturday, but violence erupted and arrests were made. At Canary Wharf in London, 16 people were injured when fighting broke out in a 6,000-strong crowd. Stores surrounding Liverpool's Clayton Square screen locked their doors as police attempted to restore order. The screens are operated by the BBC in partnership with local councils and the police. The ban on both screens will last for the duration of the World Cup. A BBC statement said: "We entirely respect the decision of the Canary Wharf Management Company and Liverpool City Council/Merseyside Police. " A Liverpool City Council spokesman said: "After a meeting between officers from Merseyside Police, Liverpool City Council and the BBC, it has been agreed that no more live football matches will be screened on the Big Screen in Clayton Square, Liverpool, for the duration of the World Cup. "The joint decision was made after considering advice from the police.

Disrespectful bastards! Excuse my language, but they’ve been given the privilege of huge screens, to sit/stand outside in the nice weather, to watch the World Cup, and they go and spoil it, like the animals they are, by causing fights. Some people don’t deserve anything.
I’m glad the BBC has banned the screens.

Atleast on an international level our fans are being well behaved and hopefully it lasts for the duration of the tournament. England have the greatest fans but when the minority act like hooligans (Scousers & Cockneys in this case) then we all get looked at in the same light.

Not just the Cockneys and Scummers chaps the Mancs were at it too. Went to the Triangle in town with me bird whom incidently couldn't see it anyway. The screen was shite , couldn't see who had posession and the knobs all around didn't give a fcuk all they wanted was to chant shite like "Easy! Easy! after 5 minutes Teenage Knob Heads running riot full of Fosters So I ended up watching the 2nd half in The Ducie Arms in Cheetham Hill of all places Will be watching the remaining games locally so couldn't give a fuck if they ban the big screens, I hope they do

The policing was non existant almost, in Liverpool. There was little or no securtiy barrier and people were too packed in, too drunk, too hot and the police were too slow to react. Everyone walking past or catching the set up from a distance thanked the Lord they were not in the middle and promptly went home. Everyone predicted it was going to be messy, it was sadly, inevitable. But as already said, it happened in Manchester too so to blame one group in one area is a tad harsh. It should not have happened but there were many contributing factors and it could have been planned better.

Ye when we beat the Argies, i was in a pub and on the road/part of town there are like 5 pubs and after everyone was happy an havin a laugh, also other games ive watched are just alod of England fans having a pint or a BBQ an shit, sometimes talking about domestic footy at half time/after the match but during the world cup is an unwritten peace so noone begins arguments about domestic football, they dont deserve the tvs and it isnt the police job to take care of a bunch of animals, they shouyld send the rspca, why risk our bobbies when tit heads are going to fight over......what exactly :S
