Emile Heskey is hoping a return to form at Wigan Athletic can help him secure an England recall.
Heskey has 43 caps to his name, but has not played for his country since featuring in England's Euro 2004 campaign in Portugal.
The former Birmingham hit-man knows he did not do enough to book a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's World Cup squad, but hopes to put a disappointing campaign firmly behind him this time around with The Latics.
Heskey is desperate to add to the five goals he has netted for his country and would like to play a part in England's Euro 2008 qualifiers next season.
"I've definitely not given up on playing for England again," revealed Heskey.
"If I play well for Wigan and produce the form I know I'm capable of, then hopefully England will come knocking.
"I can't really say that I was surprised to be left out of the World Cup squad.
"I didn't have a great season for Birmingham and I only scored four Premiership goals.
"But I would love to wear the England shirt again. To do that I have to prove I'm still capable of scoring at the top level." ------------------
Heskey, no, just no, never again, ever!

Well I know England was struggling in the striker department... but I was thinking more in the lines of Darren Bent... or Big Bird from Sesame Street maybe

Big Bird has got pretty good balance. Probably be able to control and hold up the ball better than Emile 'i spend most of my time on the floor' Heskey as well.

We've missed his impact...I mean 5 goals in 43 appearances, legend.

Spot on Red for life, that makes it a goal every 8 or so appearences! Which means he had a 50/50 chance of scoring in the World Cup this year! Man we could have done with someone with those stats, lol mind you, it would only take 1 goal to score more goals than 3 of our 4 strikers put together so we cant really say that lol! But I would take Defoe, then Bent, I would then take my chances with playing Phil Neville upfront, IF they were all injured then i know i have Heskey to cal upon, wow McClaren can sleep at night!

In a way, we laugh but why shouldnt he try, if anything it will push hi to play wel in the prem, so as a professional you have to give him credit, rather that than a bunch of lay down and die players
