We all know its a problem, so I thought, i'll put my 2 pence worth in,
I reckon it could be stamped out, without much difficulty,
In this age, fining just doesnt work, no one cares! Plus to fine a club like Chelsea is jsut laughable, unless they start dishing out fines in the millions, but even then.....
So, I was thinking about a timeout style punishment for anyone caught in foul play, you dive, you go to the sidelines for 20 minutes and watch your team play a man down for that time, if a club has 3 players punished in this way, they lose points for example, 3. Similar to if a player gets 5 yellows he has a suspension, then if the same clubs number goes up to 5 in a season, they lose more points.
it wouldput serious consequences on the player, imagine him watching and his team conceding in the time he was off OR imagine Chavski getting so many points knocked off, it cost them the league, some people may say its harsh but I think once it happened you coul dget rid of 90% of the diving, it would be too much of a risk,
Not just diving but any form of cheating, giving serious consequences
Also, another ref should be madatory, on the side with a television that has different screens of the pitch, he can moitor various areas that the ref cant and also have access to instant replays etc, then be able to communicate with the on pitch ref via a headset, this would allow him to correct decisions or an indecisions, also things like deatable offsides or goals that noone on pitch is sure if it crossed the line, he would be able to see foul play behind the refs back and see more details in tackles (Frances penalty against Italy was never a penalty) the side ref could have watched the relay and told the ref it wasnt a penalty.
I dont think this will get rid of everything overnight but would be a good start
Imagine Chelsea with 3 players watching from the sidelines in their "timeout" while Chelsea struggle against teams like Wigan etc it would help alot

I think first of all, before sin bins (which I’m sure is what you’re referring to) monitor replays have to be introduced, I’m not talking Rugby league style, were it takes ages for a panel to decide whether or not it’s a TRY, then it comes on the big screen for everyone to see, I mean just another referee at the side of the pitch monitoring things. But with the way things are going, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting anything like that, not just yet anyway.
People say ‘’Oh no, that’s too harsh of a punishment’’ etc, etc, yet they can’t stand and want total rid of diving, cheating. Err, hello? You can’t have it both ways. I say a harsh punishment is needed, rules need bending in order to stop this beautiful game turning sour. And I laugh in the face of anyone who says a fine is sufficient enough, as with the amount of money clubs these days pump in to their back pockets is laughable. It’s like giving a child 3 cookie’s and then taking away just the one when they’ve been naughty, is that setting an example? Hell no.

i've never liked the idea of someone monitoring tv screens from the side and then telling the ref because at the start it will only be a few things that are referred (eg did the ball cross the line). however, if you have a video ref for goal line checking and there is a dodgy penalty given by the normal ref then everyone is going to ask why cant the vid ref judge on pens as well. and then why cant he do offsides, tackles etc etc etc so what started with good intentions becomes something that dictates the game. and on the punishments for cheating... fines are pointless. i know it wasnt cheating but when gaz got a 5k fine for kissing the badge in front of the scousers, obviously he thought the fine was wrong but didnt really hurt him. if before the game the ref said if you want to wind up the crowd it is gonna cost you 5k gaz would have handed his credit card over there and then you also have to treat every player equally and therefore fines are unjust for some and good for others. so they have to be punished on the pitch - retrospective cards dispensed by a panel who watch videos of every game. i think that the number of yellows you get should also increase the more often you cheat, say the first three are single yellows, the next three are double yellows (not making a red), after that it is a red card for every time you cheat. that might seem too tough for some, but i bet you robben & co will suddenly find that thing called balance!

Id rather boot them to the sidelines to be honest and make them feel the need toget back in and play, their team will be men down,
with the ref on the side he would simply be a second opinion, the ref on the pitch still has more power but the side ref can just confirm things or point things out that the ref cant see, also the ref can ask him if the foul was a foul or dive, it isnt dicating thegame, just giving the ref an extra pair of eyes, I feel for them they have 22 players and an entire pitch to keep track of, it would also clear up bad decisions, he can check before dealing things like a red card, as maybe ts too harsh and when someone points out the tackle wasnt worthy of a red he can change it to a yellow and not ruin the game, it must be hard to judge what tackles are what from a ref P.O.V

i actually do have a lot of sympathy for SOME refs because they are montoring 22 top sportsmen who are doing everything they can fair or foul to win a match, and at very high speed.
if it didnt cause a hold up i'd prefer that there was a video ref giving advice at the game - it's better to punish you in the game you cheated in than make you miss the next game. the way you word it does make it sound doable but am still worried it would get out of hand
remember rooney and sol cambell.. it took a panel of 4 commentators about 5 minutes and 15 camera angles to be almost sure that there was no contact.
the only way i can see it not being overused is if the video ref doesnt have replays - so he can just advise the referee based on a different angle of seeing things. but that would mean that a lot of things would be overlooked.

So the match is played on, for now, then backstage people make a decision to what the player did and if they conclude foul play, get it to the ref via a headset and off with the player, it may be extreme etc and might cause arguments, but even if this is a temporary method, while we come up with something more solid to just stamp it out, notorious divers or serial cheaters should be made an example of, like what happened to Rio, 1, 2 month bans for the worse cases plus losing the points they gained in the match they cheated in
month bans would only be for those caught cheating repeatedly
At this moment, someone dives and gets away with it, wins a penalty, they get a slap ontheir back frm their team mates,
What if they dive, won the penalty and the match but then when they were found guilty, had the points awarded to the other team and a match suspension
Who would be slapping his back then? He wouldnt feel like a smart arse but would be the cause of defeat, this i think would make him very hesitent to do it again
Also, like i said, this may be harsh, but if your not going to cheat, you have nothing to worry about and if you are going to cheat you dont deserve to play ANYWAY

it could work i guess. be bloody confusing for the fans when the ref sends someone off for something that occurred 5 minutes earlier. or a goal gets disallowed and you see your score go down by 1.
and you're right about the harshness. if you dont cheat you dont care how long the ban is, if you do cheat then sod off for a while and learn how to respect the game.

Nah, just get the announcer to say it over the tannoy, it would also be shaming,
Arjen Robben is being dismissed by ref Mr.Ref for being adjudged to have cheated in an earlier incident.
he wuld feel like a naughty schoolkid and everyone would just watch him taking a walk off the pitch for cheating, making them feel ashamed of doing it is a step closer to making them stop
And for the goal going down, either they lose the points after the match, 3 points to the other team on account of their players cheating, or again its announced
Chelsea have been dissallowed their goal and Didier Drogba is being sent off after confirmation was made that he cheated in a prior incident
Again, completly shameful and he would be embarassed, the fans wqouldnt appreciate it and he would have to make up for it, by NOT diving but playing proper football ad earning their respect

ok completely sold on that idea now. robben dives at old trafford and it comes over on the tannoy "Mr Arjen Robben, please report to your dressing room to read the rules on cheating in football. once you have read the rules remain there for the rest of the game because we dont want your type on the pitch" 76,000 shouting cheat as he walks off. NO ONE would ever cheat again

Lol, not sure it would be quite such a sing along, but yeh something along those lines! Make it known that its a big deal to cheat and shame those who are caught
Never should i be in charge of such matters id end up going hitler ish and making a rule of if your cuaght diving 7 times in a season your wokr permit is revoked, it can go to someone who wants to come to this country to actually play football, go to Spain with your antics, go on, tar rar
Ok wouldnt be that bad, but i think something along the lines weve been talking about would really help the game
