Ya...but i reckon it was a lob over the defender to play in rooney..either ways he was terrific.

But we can't forget that while we don't a creative midfielder like them, they dont really have any good wingers who can chip in quite a few goals and lots of asissts, apart from chelsea with Malouda, and thats only been for half a season.
Chelsea: The previously mentioned Malouda and... Kalou? Arsenal: Arshavin whos quite good but in more than half the matches he does nothing and... Walcott? Rosicky? Nasri? Liverpool: Kuyt? Aquilani? Rodriguez?
I am all for a creative midfielder but we cant forget the fact that we have a lot of creativity coming from the wings.

True...but thats only in england but ManUtd are a team who want every trophy possible..so we hav to look at a bigger picture..like in europe, there are many teams like barca, bayern, inter, real who have great midfielders and wingers so to conquer europe we need the best team possible.

I would be gutted if we sold him. Carrick had 2 great seasons for us and contributed greatly to our premier league and champions league success. With Hargreaves out again we havent exactly great options in the middle of the park.

When we won the double in 2008 how many of our central midfielders sccored over 10? I don't know off the top of my head but I doubt anyone one did. When it came to replacing Ronaldo's goals last year everyone fell short apart from Rooney. We need all the players to chip in next season, not just the midfielders. I'd expect more from Nani, Valencia, certainly Berbatov, Fletch and Hernandez.
On Carrick, it would have to be a bigger offer than that to be even considered, unless we are 100% certain of signing a player in exactly the same position and want things sorted quickly. Although we Hargreaves probably finished I thnk we need to add to Carrick as opposed to replacing him.

Barca: they do, but at the moment they are the best team in the world and to want to be as good as them is a big ask. Bayern: yes they have Ribery and Robben but they dont have a creative midfielder either. Schweinsteiger is a solid box-to-box, but hes no Xavi. And while they have Toni Kroos coming through the ranks, we have players like that who are just a year or two behind him. Inter: Dont really. Their success came through a solid backbone of players like Snjeider and Cambiasso, with good strikers, a solid defence and probably the best tactical manager in the world. Real: They do, but they spent over £200m this summer, you should expect them to have some quite good players. So unless we are planning on spending obscene amounts of money, our team is going to have some problems. Even Barcalona are in around £400m debt, and thats completely their own fault. No team can be perfect.

@ Stewart
I remember adding it up in a different thread and it was something stupid like 8 or 9 goals between all our centre mids, and last season it's been well over 20. I think if we don't make any new signings just let Gibson play as an advanced midfielder or Cleverley if he's up to it.

Not unless you're going to offer him a shitload of money more than we are currently paying him, and considering we are paying him 70k a week are your highest payed player earns 50k, that seems unlikely. So fuck off kid.

I wouldn't mind him being sold if the price was right (at least 10 mill) and if we had a quality replacement lined up. With Hargo getting injured again, leaving us possibly needing 2 CM's I can't see it happening though. In the current climate, English players are overpriced, so why not £17million. As I seem to remember a certain Darren Bent being worth as much as Thierry Henry when both made their moves to their new clubs, £16million I think.

You can't just say "he's english so you pay extra for that". You have to consider form and availability when assessing a players "worth" in the market. Darren Bent had two very good seasons before his ridic transfer to spuds, and Charlton didn't want to sell. Carrick has had a nightmare season, and if we decide to sell, it will be because Fergie wants rid of him, not because we desperately need the 7 million. 17 million would be a ridiculous fee for an out of form 29 year old, who isn't exactly world class on his best days.

ID, whoever said he was "World-Class?" Very few players are world class. Those who are considered world class are those who can bring something to their respective clubs and countries. As far as I am concerned, no matter how much I dislike them, the only "World Class" players at the moment are David Villa, Iniesta and Xavi, as they have proven beyond doubt that they can do it at all levels and not go missing in big matches i.e Cristiano Ronaldo, Rooney, Lionel Messi(ok, so he had the most shots, but that is out of sheer selfishness rather than passing to a teammate.) Yes, I know you are going to support Messi all the time ID, but even without Messi, Barca would have won all those trophies anyway because of the sheer class they have.
