It means that he is out of form, but that even when he is on form he can't touch players like Fabregas, Gerrard and Lampard. Should be pretty obvious. Only one of those players you have mentioned have won something in the last 4 years. Tell me ID, oh mighty one, how many league medals(leaving out Lampard out) have Gerrard and Fabregas won? How many Champions league medals have they won since 2006(the date when Carrick started playing for us).....none. I can go on and on, but it seems that you are someone who doesn't know anything about team play. Hard to stay on one topic when it get's a little sticky huh? I was quite obviously talking about comparing talent, not titles. Gerrard, Lampard and Fabregas are without a doubt more talented than Carrick, and if we replaced Carrick with one of them, our team would be better for it (added cuntishness aside). Fabregas is a top 3 playmaker in the world today, someone who is extremely conducive to team play, so if you think he is a selfish then maybe you don't understand team play. Find me a manager who would trade Fabregas for Carrick...... You can't. Carrick may have won 3 PL titles, but do you really think we would not have won those titles with Fabregas instead of Carrick? PS David Villa has won one title in the last 4 years, the spanish cup, I'd still take him over Ibrahimovic who has won 4 league titles in the same span any day of the week.....

wytheshawered1973...you said Valencia unless he improves you reckon he'll be easily dealt with by defenders? Not a chance! Whilst they might predict what he'll do...they still won't be able to catch him with his agility and blistering pace...I know it's irrelevant but I think it had to be said..

Was very impressed with Valencia last season.
Think he is only going to get better in a United jersey.
Would love to see him cut in a lot more next season.

Hope he becomes a little less one dimensional and works on his weaker left foot. Asides from that more of the same next season, more pinpoint crossing on Wazza's increasingly bald bonce, maybe Chicharito can get on the end of some too.
Carrick had a few calamity moments last season, his lakdaisical moment v Bayern most crucially. We won't let him go, he's a very valuable asset and if he conjours up some form and confidence he'll prove his worth.

Thanks CP, but it was for those who believe that we need one great player to win us trophies. Many have forgotten that since 2006, we have had 1 great player surrounded by 10 players of good quality and that is why we were Champions of England, Champions of Europe and Champions of the World. I would prefer to have a Carrick in my team rather than selfish fuckers like Lampard, Gerrard and Fabregas any day. fabregas over carrick all day every day and twice on sunday mate, lets not get it twisted, the lad can do what carrick does and a whole lot more. whilst i appreciate people wanting to keep carrick we cannot have a player being consistently poor all season and then attribute that to confidence, he knows who he plays for and self motivation in any top organisation is so so crucial. yes form is temporary and class is permanent but a whole season off form, lets hope he had an injury cos he was bad. if anderson was on form and hargo fit then for me 12 million and he can go be off form elsewhere, however as we have hargo prob never playing again and anderson injured carrick will stay.

I responded to your post so, less of the snide "Hard to stay on one topic, sticky huh!", therefore it was you who was off-topic. Off-topic, why would Sir Alex would want Gerrard when Gerrard would clearly never go to Manchester United, why would Sir Alex trade Carrick for Fabregas when the chosen club after Arsenal is Barca, why the hell would Sir Alex trade Carrick for Lampard who is going to finish his career at Stamford Bridge? Please tell me oh arrogant one.

You clearly state that he had a poor season, but you forgotten to mention the fact that he had 3 brilliant seasons before that. Are we really that blind? I am the first to acknowledge that he had a bad season last season, but I am also the first to acknowledge that he had 3 brilliant seasons.

Unless he cuts in with his left foot, he will always be one-dimensional I'm afraid. Whilst we are typing this, I am crossing my fingers that the training he is going through is exactly that. So, let us hope we see a new, improved Valencia next season who has added another string to his bow.

Theres an aspect of Valencias play that is similar to Beckham. That is he always seems to get a cross in, no matter how difficult it is and how many players are closing him down. He always seems to get that half yard to deliver the ball.

He always seems to get that half yard to deliver the ball. It is true, but Valencia has pace and it would be good if he could add something else to his game. We are already in for a treat with his crosses and his eye for goal and of course his run to the by-line. Imagine if he cuts in a la Robben or Messi, that would be even better? Your opinion IrishRed??

Yeah that would be great, theres that old saying 'your only half the player you can be if your one-legged. I dont like to criticise Valencia because hes had such a good first season for us. I'm sure Fergie advises all players to work on their weaknesses. As you saw with Wazza his heading wasnt the best, so he worked at it all summer and got his reward. Hopefully Valencia is doing the same.

For the first 3 years, Carrick was brilliant, then suddenly last season he was shite. I can only assume two things happened, he had the confidence taken out of him in the Champions League final against Barca and he didn't get it out of his system or, he has had a secret injury. His contribution to Manchester United has been more than important, and I really want to see Carrick pull on the Manchester United top once more.

He war arguably the best passer in the league during his first 2/3 years with us. That talent doesnt just disappear, its obviously a lack of confidence he's suffering from.

wytheshawered1973 to be honest mate i dont like living off past glory and me not mentioning carricks 3 good seasons is not a putdown to him its really cos he is at a big boy club, big boy league, he was poor for a whole season, and to be honest its more frustrating when you take into account the 3 previous seasons. i really dont think there is an argument against my post i dont see anything there that is unfair to him, and like i said a fit hargo an on form anderson and after the season carrick had for 12 million he would be off. reality is we wont get that fee and those other players are injured so carrick stays, we all get behind him.

He did have some good games last season, i'm not defending how bad he was last season but the games he played well were noticeable.
