In relative terms (in this country at least) , it's fairly recent and would be much harder to build a brand and therefore a following/fanbase. Do they have much of a fan base now? According to attendances, no.

I can see both sides of the argument for starting their own teams. They get to have their own identity, totally separate from the male teams, and get to build their own legacy. The problem comes with funding; the main reason why they're all attached to existing male clubs is because they can't afford to set up their own teams, leagues etc... and then continue to fund that.

Probably not, but it also doesn't help when you forget that we do have at least one woman who currently does post Is it? *surprised* *ahem* I am. And yes, I would watch Utd's women team. I don't watch it very much, who am I going to watch? City? Arsenal? Liverpool? For what? I usually watch their male team play because they challenge spots with us (unless it's Liverpool, it's just for the pleasure to mock them later) but we have no women's team to compete. You can argue that the quality is "shit" but just now they are improving, being developed. Teams, competitions etc take a while to grow. The male World Cup has been around for nearly a century, while WWC is as old as myself so there's really no comparison. The financial question was nailed, and think if you wouldn't like to see Utd's women team breaking Liverpool's one and lifting silverware or breaking City and Arsenal the argument over identity (e.g its a men's team) it's not very consistent. United was founded in 1878, I can't see women in shorts playing football back then, can you? Hence they'd not be able to fund Utd back then or have both under the same name. To be fair, we can debate this for hours but most of us have our heads settled on a "yes/no" -------------------------------------------- united tampons? that's taking "we bleed for united" to a whole new level

I wouldn't mind watching a women's Utd team. I don't pay any attention to the England team because it's just an extension of the men's team, which bores me to tears. A Utd team though, that's a different proposition altogether. With the right infrastructure in place, and the right investment, I think womens club football can only get stronger. Everything has to start somewhere right?

Why not. Let them play. While we're at it we can see if they have any decent center backs then.

Although to be fair I watched the Canada v Swiss game last night and it was utter gash (no pun intended). Never seen such poor football. Listening to the female Townsend aswell. Bitch didn't have a clue.

i wouldn't watch it. i don't watch the reserves as often as i should/would like to, and i watch the young teams even less. any potential women's team would be the same for me. i might watch the odd highlights package but wouldn't cancel plans to watch, the way i would the senior men's team.

Only reason I don't watch the reserves is because I refuse to pay for MUTV.

Actually I take it back. Watching this England v Norway game, with this being world stage, if this is the standard of football then women's football can fuck off. What utter fucking dross this is.
I've seen better football up the local football ground.

I've seen better football up the local football ground. The lack of pace is just stifling, I tried a couple times to watch it and it was just numbing
