Newcastle's tormentor in chief returns!
Wayne Rooney has given Manchester United a huge boost ahead of the Barclays Premier League season by coming through a week of double training sessions and declaring himself ready for Sunday's opener against Newcastle at Old Trafford.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson virtually ruled Rooney out of the start of the season nine days ago when revealing that he had been struck down by a stomach virus he picked up during a club visit to Nigeria.
But Sportsmail disclosed a week ago that the striker had begun to make rapid progress in his recovery, and it is now understood that he has been training twice a day ever since.

Ahh, seat 146 of row 28 in the North Stand tier 1 - it'll be so good to be home!! Crazy thing is, I'm going to be driving from and back to Newcastle (I go to Northumbria University, I'm not a Toon native), so we better not fluff it otherwise the three hour car journey on the way back will be torturous......

Rooney is defo fit according to Fergie so welcome news I think.
Squad numbers are also out. No change but the Fabio and Rafeal twins have no.'s 20 and 21 respectively.

Having Rooney back is a huge boost and I hope he gets a chance to shine because he's been in Ronaldo's shadow a bit too much. It would be nice to see him bag a goal or two.

I can't believe tickets are on general sale. We paid loads for ours on the exchange. So annoying after missing out on the initial ballot to learn they are now on sale to the public and costing a lot less. If any non oneunited members wanna see a game this season get on Manutd.com right now!!!!

There are a couple of Barcode lads where I work who's faces dropped today when I told them Rooney had been passed fit. Any pre-season optimism drained away!
