I knew Emile fucking Heskey shouldn't have been selected!!!! He has probably stopped Rio from playing in this World cup, and it will be his last one, that is for sure. Words escape me to describe Rio. On a side note, no Drogba perhaps...:-D The way he scored that off-side goal against us still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of many Mancs including myself.

Gutted for Rio. Think its a disgrace that Gerrard leading the national team. After his performances I think he's the last player to be leading the team. Wazza should be wearing the arm band.

Brilliant post!!! You are simply echoing the words of all Manchester United fans on this forum plus all around the world. Rooney is the one who shouts, who tries is best, whereas Gerrard has hands on hips and just points, which means he really isn't a natural leader. Real leaders express themselves i.e Roy Keane. In fact, I would prefer to reinstate Terry as captain rather than that scouse twit. He has done nothing to merit being in the England side this season. Although, the onus is on Gerrard to have good games now, and we all know that Gerrard will bottle it, and so the British press will be sharpening their knives...

He has what no other player has, he has guts, he has the bottle, he has the winning attitude, he has the physique and the presence. For a national team to win anything, they need to have players who have experience of winning at least something with their clubs, and to be honest, there are very few of those.

Imagine, world cup qualifiers and the training sessions in between and no real injuries, no look at us.

I would go for Rooney to captain (your) team. And would even go for Terry over Gerrard. That said you´re fucked. There is no more mobility in your central defence anymore, no pace. the only one who could´ve covered for Rio is Evertons Phil Jagielka. You have Terry, Upson and Ledley King. Plus the Dipper. Dawson is flying in but knows fuck all about oppositions of world calibre. I wish the best of luck and will be following the english, since obviously our own excuse for a football team are not in it.
I feel very, very sad for Rio. It was his last hope for a World Cup, fourth in a row...and as captain aswell. But I do feel all the more worried over his career as a whole, it seems his frame is starting to give up on him at 31.

I'm not sure Terry injuring Rooney would either surprise me or even make me hate him more. I honestly don't think I could hate Terry more.
I agree with Ryda though, I was really sad when Owen got injured because I reckon he had an outside shout because he was just getting some good form (2 goals in 2 consecutive games!) before he was injured. Beckham even more so because he is still my boyhood hero and it was definitely his last world cup for such a great player. But Rio seemed to have just got rid of all his injury problems and you gotta feel bad for him, probably his last world cup (unless he does a Cannavaro) and to be captain and miss it is truly awful.

Maybe this is a good thing. At least the press won't be able to blame a United player, it will all be put onto Gerrard.

I don't really think this is that big of a deal to be honest. I know Rio is our best defender, but Capello brought King and Carragher into the squad for just a time as this. Besides, our defense was never going to win us the WC anyway as they haven't kept a clean sheet in a dog' age with Rio in the team. It's still down to Rooney regardless of who plays at the back.

I won't be surprised in the least if it's Scholes this time around.. The ABU's will say how that dipper was patriotic and what not whereas Scholes turned his back and refused to come out of retirement.. Anyway onto the topic, really gutted for Rio... It serves Capello right though.. Only players who are fit, in form and playing regularly my arse.. Perma crock King and that dipper who had a dreadful season ahead of Wes Brown who is the better defender by some distance.. Sorry England fans but what remains is for Rooney to do his ankle and be out injured for a month.. That ll do real nice for United...

I am pretty certain that Rooney is no way near 100%. The moment I saw him turn his ankle, it was a bad one, and yes, it was a bad one. He is either stupid or is the gutsiest player to have ever played the game, although there are exceptions i.e Bryan Robson, Franz Beckenbauer and Citehs old goalie who broke his neck in an FA Cup final. In fact, I am going to go further on to say that our chances of winning the world cup went, when Rooney collapsed in agony on that fateful night, because I cannot see him regaining full fitness in such a short period of time. Rio, on the otherhand has the chance to at least rest himself before the pre-season matches and be 100% ready for the premier league season... ;D

^^^^ I never ever wish any sort of ill fate or injury on any United player. My main concern is that Rooney is not 100% and probably still carrying that ankle injury which he is only going to aggravate as the WC progresses. There is a possibility that he may even miss the start of next season for a significant period of time which will be a disaster for United. Lets face it, Rooney or no Rooney England has zip chance of winning the WC and I would much rather he misses it and starts the season for us. Isn't there a saying that United > England ?
