Sounds like WWE are gonna be owned by the same Company that own UFC. Official. VKM is now a multi billionaire.

Call me crazy, but if I’d been publicly accused of several sexual assaults and was keen to make people forget about it, the last thing I’m doing is coating my hair in shoe polish and growing a pencil tash.

Wrestling History Project, Spring-Summer '94. Welcome to The WWF New Generation!! Headlined by ... The return of Bob Backland and The Million Dollar Corporation feat. Nikolai Volkoff led by Ted DiBiase and Gorilla Monsoon on commentary?? This entire concept sums up the WWF right now; Vince still obsessed with Hogan and desperate to make it seem like he doesn't care his main guy just signed with the competition. Bret is champion and feuding with Owen but it's half-hearted at best. King of the Ring as a PPV was a mess, although Bret vs Diesel was surprisingly good. They had some random 'local sports team legend' on as a commentator who had clearly zero knowledge of wrestling and that I actually ended up feeling quite sorry for because Gorilla and Macho Man eventually started ignoring him completely. HBK is doing an odd talkshow thing but never wrestling - I'm presuming there was some wellness thing going on behind the scenes. I am dreading the inevitable Diesel title run to be honest. Lex needs to get out of WWF. He was genuinely hot but he's completely mid-card at this point. And they've just started allowing him to do the torture rack as a finisher which would have made far more sense a year ago. There are two Undertakers and they are going to headline SummerSlam sponsored by Domino's? *Comic Book Guy depressed sigh*. There is so much going on here where I ask myself, 'What the fuck are you thinking guys?' The good news is we have JR on commentary! Vince is absent due to *Ahem* neck surgery so isn't on. Calling back to the 'boring Bret' discussion, take the time to watch Bret vs 123 Kid on Raw (11.07.94) for a brilliant title match and lesson in putting someone over. Down in Atlanta and Hulkamania is running wild brother!! Flair is heel again to accommodate Hogan the hero. *Also sigh*. It is definitely retrospective Hulk (We know Terry is an asshole) jadedness but I find myself a bit whiplashed by how immediately Hogan has gone to the top. I am trying to appreciate it for what it is and the magnitude in 1994. The finale of The Bash at the Beach was goosebumpy to be fair. Sting/Rude petered out because of Rude's back injury but I am quite pleased I called the unification run. I miss Vadar at the top of the card. Stunning Steve Austin is great, DDP getting more main show TV time (and we have seen the debut of the Diamond Cutter) is great, and there is lots to enjoy in WCW. HHH has gone from 'Terra Ryzin' to his real name. They are generally so much better at keeping continuity in storylines and taking an arc between guys for more than one or two weeks then they have proper payoffs. I think Bischoff is head of creative now - loathe as I am to admit - he puts together a decent mid- long- programme. I am officially 'into' ECW as of about May '94. Heyman's promos are great, Sabu is great, Shane Douglas is fantastic. The production and wrestling is still seriously dodgy but it feels like a genuine upstart organisation now. Cactus is across. The Funk brothers are making appearances. Sandman has ditched that atrocious pot belly in a wetsuit gimmick to hook up with Nancy while whacking people with a kendo stick. It's all a bit senseless at times but it's bloody good fun. Man, the Fed really sucks.

I honestly don't think people realise how close they were to going broke, and Bret's run on top is often overlooked for the dumpster fire Diesel run, then HBK - SCSA handover.

As one of the Bret Hart detractors on the forum, would just like to say that the 123 Kid match is my favourite Bret match. There’s a facial expression that Bret does after receiving an arm drag or something that is just stellar. Barely has more been conveyed with a slight raise of an eyebrow. i.imgur.com/62wnHpp.gif

Made it through the horrendous early-mid 90s WWF stuff and into 97. Has become much more enjoyable on a week-to-week basis for me.
Don’t know whether it’s just nostalgia, as this era is the building blocks of the period I started watching as a kid but it’s cool seeing some of those stars make their beginnings.
Raw is “Raw is War” and Austin is now in full flow and feuding with everyone, especially heel-Bret (and the foundation) currently, who I find much more engaging in this role, casual homophobia aside.
Taker is champ and feuding with Mankind again. Playing with fire has become the theme which I’m assuming is the pre-cursor to Kane’s arrival.
HHH and The Rock are growing; Shawn is injured again; matches are more violent and Sunny/Sable are less clothed!

Dreading '95 but enjoying ECW finding its feet. The Fed one long ongoing shitshow. The 'Lex Luger sold out wait no he didn't/Ha ha US Govt. sucks Vince is innocent' analogy with Tatanka and DiBiase was wretched. Oh look! The Kliq have all the secondary titles. Wonder who Bret will lose the belt to next?? WCW is okay. Hogan is getting pushed to the moon but is mostly present via video. Flair is heel again, Sting is mostly out of the picture, Vadar has been relegated. Austin has just jobbed on PPV to Jim Duggan for the US Title in about 9 seconds. Writing is on the wall for Johnny B. Badd to job the TV Title to Honky Tonk Man. I'm watching this 30 years later and not coming into this as an NWA/Dubya-C-Dubya fan from the 80's and even I'm pissed. Going to stick around for the debut of Nitro but I'll be honest - this is a bit of a slog at the moment.

Though the PPVs weren't much more enjoyable, if you ask me to start naming matches I really enjoyed I'd have a hard time. Though unlike you I've been watching strictly WWF. Luger was too early for me really, even though I occasionally got a few old WCW VHS tapes off a cousin when I was really young, I didn't take any of it in. So I was essentially watching him for the first time in his run in WWF and was hugely underwhelmed. I've been meaning to for a while but I need to go back and watch WCW. Besides those occasional VHS PPVs I've never seen any of it, even at the height of the Monday Night Wars I only watched WWF. Approaching the Attitude Era now with my WWF rewatch, it feels like a good time to watch WCW and catch up to the same point, so I can watch both of them side by side through the late 90s to WCW's demise!

A lot of good wrestling to be watched this weekend - Night of Champions, Double or Nothing and Battleground all have multiple matches that should be bangers.

I think I've probably said before but I have all WWF & WCW PPVs from 1989 to the debut of Raw, all WCW Saturday Nights for 1993 & '94 ('95 to come). From '93 on I have all Raws, Superstars, Saturday Nights, ECW Harcore TVs and PPVs. So give us a shout if you want to dive in to WCW! If I can figure out how to send you a link I will. Have them on a seedbox.

The ending to Night of Champions was fantastic. We should be seeing Cody vs. Roman 2 at SummerSlam IMO, but feels like the Brock feud won't end before then as I figured it'd be via Cody winning MITB. No way Roman's reign should be stretching to WM40 at this stage, the story has so much steam.
