Big fan of British film but Dead Mans Shoes didn't do it for me. A story which ultimately allows you to fall in love but a fall short execution delivered unsuccessfully by the comical and at times unconvincing acting. This is England. That unpleasant 80's feel incorporated with character tension and affection brings forward a certain realism which was aided by a wonderful performance from Combo and Shaun, despite the outcome becoming apparent when Combo makes an appearance even before it gets there. I still find the Shaun and Smell relationship gringeworthy and can't help but think of Emmerdale when Woody comes on screen but This is England is a far better example of Meadows, I just wonder when, if ever, he will stop making films which have an element of his life in them and if he does, does he have the ability to bring forward something as powerful when memories of past aren't there.
Although I found Office Space dipped towards the end, I was pleasantly surprised at how well timed and funny it was. A subtle piece that gently drags you along and allows you to genuinely feel attached to the characters despite chuckling at their misfortunes.
' If things go well I might be showing her my O-face. "Oh... Oh... Oh!" You know what I'm talkin' about. "Oh!" '

I watched American Gangster last night and can't believe I've never seen it. It is a long but enjoyable one. Next up is a favourite of mine I haven't watched in a while. Training Day. I'm on a bit of a Denzel mission.

I'm on a bit of a Denzel mission. Crowe gives Denzel an acting class in American Gangster, and Denzel's brilliant in it, just that Crowe was a little better. IMO!

He isn't the most likable fella but I'd have to agree with that one. I need some more recommendations.

Ah Training Day, just as good as ever. Could have easily watched an extra hour of footage.

I just finished watching Contagion.
Matt Damon, Kate Winslet (and a decent take on an American accent), Bryan Cranston, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Laurence Fishburne, John Hawkes, Elliott Gould, Daria Strokous (nom).
Completely over the top with the cast which I find takes away the realism, especially in a film like this. With music that wouldn't have sounded out of place in a mid 90's detective series and the middle of the film not quite leaving you satisfied you wouldn't be wrong in not buying it. A decent enough watch though with a solid performance from Winslet.
